All Aboard which has provided routes like East Metro, Ohio Rail, and
Canton in the past, is excited to bring you another route,
Cumberland. Cumberland is the CV Division of the L&N which ran within
Harlan County, Kentucky. 30 miles of track lay between the towns of
Loyall and Harlan to the Benham and Lynch coal mines. Coal was
brought from these mines and several others in the near vicinity to
the mainline which ran west to Corbin (about 60 miles) and Haggans
Point (about 15 miles). The scenery is spectacular as you ride the rails straddled by tall mountains and a wide river as you travel along the valley floor. Numerous industries along the way provide plentiful switching opportunities. Industries like coal tipples, a coal preparation plant, a cement processing plant, chemical, scrap metal, coke ovens, and the list goes on! All along the way are small towns capturing the look and feel of mountain railroading. Because the route is set between the 50's and 60's, vintage cars are included.
Once again, Dick Cowen has graciously made available complete L&N
packages for both diesel and steam as well as numerous freight cars,
caboose and passenger equipment. 15 activities are available already
which take advantage of Dick's generosity. You can find your way
around easily enough thanks to Don Hughes rail schematics which are
included and the Cumberland Manual list all the spurs and what city
they are in.
Cumberland also includes seasonal textures for Summer, Autumn and Winter but does not include night textures or people.
The route is spectacularly detailed and so a computer which is 2ghz and above is recommended. You can turn the detail levels down which should help on slower computers.
Those who have Canton will recognize many of the Canton structures
along with over 185 new objects too which includes a fully featured
lumber mill, coal tipples of varying types, coke ovens, a major coal
preperation plant, a divserse new set of vegetation objects, and many
more! Detail in the modeling has always been an important feature and
you'll see this too with Cumberland.
Videos for Cumberland are already available and can be watched at Ed Hawkin's Hawkdawg.com.
