Train Trainer 1.0

V-gamar.net gives a free 3D game that will give you the basis of train driving!

The game proposes to go from a town down to a country station and back following a railway path. Of course, you need to do the travel in a minimum time. That is were the game actually begins, since you need to accelerate and slow down during your travel. You find out how much a train is heavy, and that it is not easy to stop at the right spot and sometimes find yourself overtaking the station.

The set of Train Trainer is based upon a toy model map. Therefore you find yourself over a square map inside which the train follows its looping railway. The game's 3D décor presents a small town and a country side. Your train goes in between the buildings to reach the main station, and then goes out around the town to reach the country side and the second station.

Their are camera controls which gives you the ability to orbit around the train, and to zoom in or out to get details or full overview.

This game is only a start. It contains the basis of a train simulator, giving many future options, like adding wagons, changing railways, or even managing a company. One can imagine all that can be added, when you see that the full actual game takes only 229 kb! V-gamar will create upgrades of this game as soon as possible. Therefore, watch out for version 2.0!

The engine used to controle the game is Virtools Dev 2.0 (www.virtools.com). It provides many behaviors, in order to create for instance a simple physical function which controls the speed of the train, depending on its weight and inertia. The Virtools Behavioral engine gives full control over many parameters, like, for instance the following of a curve, which is used here to follow the railway path. The Dev's 3D engine, gives all the 3D enhanced results one can get with 3D Graphic cards and DirectX 8 or OpenGL.

V-gamar (www.v-gamar.net) is creating Virtools powered 3D games since February 2001 and upgraded its games recently to Virtools Dev 2.0. One can find a flight simulator "Casual Wings" that was promoted at www.flightsim.com. V-gamar's purpose is to gather the techniques needed to create fully efficient 3D games. By doing this, Antoine Prévost manages not only to create games in a very short time (sometimes less than a week!), but mainly gathers the methods to create more elaborate games.

Of course, all those games are free, and can be downloaded in a few seconds.
