Reading this persons postings he sounds a lot like Copper, Donner and/or Donner Pass or what ever User Name that will get him into the forum. Who is this fellow as his profile does not say anything?
04-29-2002, 11:56 AM
I remeber someone with the username Donner Pass ove at the MSTS Community:

what do you want.....
04-29-2002, 12:44 PM
You are correct! Over at TranSimulator Fan Site he used Donner and Donner Pass and if you remember, he was always demanding something ASAP and always looking for a freebie, much like LOT767's request for a free version of ESE!
Hope all is well with You and Yours!

Who are you? Tell the members of this forum something about yourself...your profile is blank!

I guess only Nels would know for sure. I believe he can view the IP addresses for anyone posting here if this forum is typical of most. I agree that the posting styles are much the same, but there are a lot of people out there that have rather poor forum skills (CAPS, flames, etc), so we shall see.

What difference does it make who this person is. I have seen this question come up before concerning who this person is. This person doesn't bother me, as it is apparent that he bothers some with some percieved annoying habits. I have been here in this forum since last June and the MSTS Community a slightly shorter time, and have learned to grow a thick skin.
Some people will change a screen name if they feel they are getting picked on. I think this may be the case here.
No flame, just my opinion.
04-29-2002, 04:15 PM
Yeah, I sure remember him wanting things for free etc. He alsways had, I dunno really, kind of 'an attempt at emotional posts' if you get what I mean. Donner Pass you out there!!
Oh, sorry about the block on profile, I was fiddling the other day, I'll go sort it!!
And also, its quite good being able to view peoples IP addresses, I can do that with my counter, and block them if I wish. (Evil Laugh!!) LOL
[iDownload section now accessable!!! Why did no one tell me?![/i]

" Reading this persons postings he sounds a lot like Copper, Donner and/or Donner Pass"...
You know you're getting old when all the young kids start to sound alike, ya old curmudgeon! :P
Seriously, there are a few adolescents on this forum (you can usually tell), and that poses some problems. On the one hand, if they are able to remain totally anonymous, they can log in under a few different identities and generally stir up trouble if they're inclined to. On the other hand, the internet is a happy hunting ground for child molesters, and too much personal information can become the key that a pervert needs to open the door. My own personal opinion is that no child should be on the internet without direct adult supervision, but unfortunately my opinion don't count for squat. So when minors do join us, we should show a little patience, respect and preserve their privacy for safety's sake, click on the "alert" to let Nels know if we think they're being a problem, and sometimes tell them they need to get Dad or Mom to help them rewrite their questions in wording that makes sense. If the parents aren't too busy, that is, unfortunately our society places a hell of a lot more importance on productivity than on raising children. Had to get me started on politics, didn't you?
Well, anyway, some of them are going to be more mature than others, some are real nice kids, some are spoiled brats. So in a sense the kids are a lot like the adults! Some, like a certain teenager from Germany, contribute some great things, so I don't think banning kids from the forum would be a good thing. The ones that draw your attention the most are the ones who have parents that don't know or care that they're here, and those are the ones who are going to be the most irritating, since apathetic parents equals little or no home training. Most of us here are fathers and grandfathers, so we really shouldn't have too many problems teaching them the manners that their parents neglected to give them.

I don't know in other parts of US, but if you see the way parents grow their kids in LA, you will not believe it.
I go to public high school in LA, senior, graduating in 1 month and half, and 90% (no, I am not exaturating)
of kids in school have no respect to teachers/thier friends/or whoever is on campus.
Thier parent's dont even care what they do on school, and parent not showing up even called from homewroom teacher is something usual.
On parent conference day, that is held at night so that working paretns can come, one teacher average about 4 visitors out of 100 students.
I will be moving to Maryland in September to go to college and I can't wait to.

It's part of adolesence, and is as old as time itself. Those who are young and have respect for others, will probably get life sorted out quicker than others who do not. Some might not get it until, standing before St. Peter, saying "Gee wiz - Really?"

Definitely not. Besides, I suspect there are quite a few teenagers in here that we don't know about/haven't identified. We just assume that they're adults due to their behavior.
The nice thing is that even if some of these kids are "bad", there's still hope for improvement...no matter how slim.
Now as for the adults in here who still don't get it...that's a much tougher proposition.

I doubt that I'm a better man than you. To be honest there was 1 person here who used to irritate me, all be it minor, but an irritation non the less. That was Topdog, This guy had an unquenchable desire to be famous at something, anything Train Sim related.
I just learned to live with it. I haven't seen Topdog around here for a while now. I think he went over to the dark side, you know, Trainz.
All the other little irritants, the ones who have the caps lock key stuck on, the ones who ask and demand things and the ones who think they can fix anything and everything just amuse me now.
04-30-2002, 04:36 PM
I think that the little irritants should give their PC a spring clean to get that small blob of blue tack removed from the under side of their CAPS LOCK key!
Also LOT, you get all this stuff here for free, and I believe that the ESE route is VERY good. I think these people deserve credit and reward for all those painstaking hours of work they have put in. When I started creating my route, I found it very hard. WHy don;t you try and make your own route. See what it feels like to loose your work then install the back up copy (if you made one) and start at the bottom of that incline you have just perfected.
Also, when the guy above said who are you, your profile is blocked, I thought he was talking to me, and thats why I said I would unblock my profile. Just incase I confused you! Although perhaos you are even more confused now!!
04-30-2002, 04:55 PM
I dunno what you're complaining about, Chuck, the front coupler is fixed now, right? Hee-hee! Ol' TopDog went to work for Microsoft and fixed it like he said he was gonna, that would explain the bugginess of the patch! Personally I liked TopDog in spite of his overwhelming exuberance, I guess I'm a little more immune to irritation from kids. Even the ones who are poster children for Ritalin! It's usually the "adults" that should know better that annoy me the most. One of my pet peeves is these guys that come in here with a blast of trumpets and announce they are going to make a universal route distribution tool that will eliminate the large installed size of routes by cutting out all the unneccessary files, then it turns out they have never even tried to package a route for distribution, so they don't have the first clue which files are actually necessary. Right now there's a guy named Mike Simpson that nobody ever heard of (since he never blew his own horn), quietly working on the solution, and he's so close to failsafe, foolproof perfection I can almost guarantee my next route upload will be based on his system.
Georgi, I hope you're not gonna be dissapointed, that kind of thing is almost nationwide. I worked as a classroom aide and I'm currently Vice President of the Duke Ellington LSC in Chicago, and we all too frequently get kids in Kindergarten without anything but basic potty training. Some go thru stages in the inner city that reflect classic fiction, "Bebe's Kids", "Children of the Damned", "Lord of the Flies", and "Boyz in the 'Hood". And there's no way to enlist the parent's help in fixing the attitudes of the junior gangstas, the parents are either apathetic or downright hostile. That's the real reason why parochial schools do a lot better academically while spending less money per kid, they can kick the hard cases out so that they don't constantly interfere with quality education for the good kids. Once they kick them out, the only place left for them is the public schools, and we're stuck with them. But it's not politically correct to blame the parents, so the understaffed, underpaid, and underfunded teachers are always blamed for the failures. I've walked a mile in their shoes, so I know better.

That is really pissing me off. I see parent of some student coming and that parents blames everything on teachers.
Why on the earth would a parent think that a teacher who sees her/his child an hour a day can affect their children in bad way, but they can't. It's really crazy.
In most cases, I mean most like 99.9%, parents are to blame of bad behavior of children, yet as you said, low paid teachers get blamed for it.
I've even heard some parent saying "give me back my Taxes, you can't teach my son". Well....you better get that kid in your house and teach him a lesson or keep quiet....It's ridiculous.

Good Morning Phil,
I was not refering to your profile but LOT767's! When I comes to profiles I like them because they gives me an idea of who we are talking with and in your case that you are from the Yorks which is one of my favorite places in the UK!
05-02-2002, 08:55 PM
good points all of them, but in the end there's no simple answer. me, I agree with sniper; and tend to turn the other cheek. kids are kids, and we can't fault them for that. However, some of the adults have really gotten to me in the past, partly because I always felt that adults should act like adults and not like spoiled brats. But that's been done so no rehashing it.
I guess the best thing I could say is "If you ignore them, they'll tire of the game eventually and go away." in this statement, the game is the whining and begging.

21?? and you talk/post in that Manner some of your Recent post didn't make much of any sense at all "Need to be Collage Educated to understand them"

Well, I think we've cleared that up, what we got here is not a young kid (altho at my age 21 seems like a young kid, three of my children are older than that), but "i 'am polish...", somebody that has trouble with English.
Again, different cultures have different ways of expressing things, and when you try to translate the expression into a foreign language, it gets even worse. There have been a few posts on this forum complaining about complainers, or complaining about trolls and flamewars, and about 90 percent of the disagreements that I have seen around here are primarily caused by misunderstood communications. What you think I said is not necessarily what I meant, even among people with the same native language we have that problem.
Lot767, the only thing you really need to do is work on your English skills a little more so people on this forum will understand you a little better, and hopefully they will be more tolerant when your meaning doesn't get across. Here's a good example from a question you posted recently;
hi i see all these great scenery objects on the train-sim site
but someone please tell me how to install it on msts
tell me please a little of the basics
There's nothing wrong with the English in that question, and it's pretty clear that you want someone to guide you through installing something, but it's really not clear exactly what you want to install. "scenery objects" in the file library scenery objects section are for use in the Route Editor, I doubt that's what you mean. If you want to know how to download and install a route, try clicking on the File Library link at the bottom of the page, browse an entire section, and choose Routes. Then pick a small one to start, download and unzip it, and follow the directions in the readme file to install it. Hopefully you have somebody around that understands English a little better who can help you with the directions.

hmm well im 26 :) i have a 2 year old Daughter and a 3 week old Daughter and a Polish Wife :)
** im Polish by Proxy ** :) or so my Brother-in-law says
06-15-2002, 12:29 AM
My oldest son's wife is of Polish ancestry, but that's not the same, since she was born in Wisconsin and English is her native tongue. I think this guy is actually from Poland, and English is a second language for him, if you follow me. Either that or he's mentally retarded, which is also not his fault. I personally habla a little bit of Espanol, but not very much, so I can only imagine what it's like for some of these guys to try to put across a message in what, to them, is a foreign language. I'm a cynic by nature, and fully understand that some people are just plain dickheads, but I don't think that's the case here.
06-15-2002, 11:50 AM
i do have to Agree with you on this one, But as you said there are a few that are just plain ole Dickheads...
but i guess we can expect that on here
06-15-2002, 12:19 PM
well your saying i am a dickhead or what?
06-15-2002, 06:46 PM
See, that's exactly what I'm talking about, lot767, you need to ask someone with a better understanding of English to read that thread and translate it for you. My meaning was perfectly clear.

Yeah, it's what I keep saying about flamewars in general, sometimes they start because an asshole starts one, but usually it's a misunderstanding leads to somebody copping an attitude, all hands man your flamethrowers.
"some people are just plain dickheads, but I don't think that's the case here."
"i do have to Agree with you on this one, But as you said there are a few that are just plain ole Dickheads..."
Note the "I don't think that's the case here" and the response "i do have to Agree with you on this one", neither one of us was calling this guy a dickhead, just the opposite - both of our opinions were that he was not, he just had trouble understanding the language. It could be that our opinions were wrong, when I go into someplace where I don't understand the common language, I don't go copping an attitude when I'm not sure what people are saying.
