This reminds me of the movie 'Twister'; when that scientist guy mentions 'a very pronounced hook' in the storm cell..

It just started raining here (and the storm front is still a few miles away), when I got this message:

LAST EDITED ON May-31-02 AT 08:55PM (EDT)[p]Part of that system passed through my neck of the woods this morning (30 miles east of Buffalo, NY).But i'll tell ya, craziest weather I ever saw. Started raining at about 8am and was on and off right till it cleared up at 4:30. Wierdest part was the sudden downpours that would instantly go silent after about 5 min. and then pick up right where it left off. No twisters to speak of out here though, and they aren't exactly the rarest thing either.


P.S. being a bicyclist, i've found Weatherbug to be quite invaluable at times.

MILLSTONE...MOVING SOUTHEAST AT 45 MPH. THIS STORM COULD PRODUCE A
TORNADO AT ANY TIME.

Aaah, that’s nothing, come visit tornado alley in May or October!

Seriously, North Texas (& Oklahoma) has some vicious thunderstorms. The pictures of the storms you all posted are very common during the spring and fall, especially the forming of the “hooks”, very scary. Along with the tornados, we get tons of hail. Imagine grapefruits and golf balls falling out of the sky everywhere.

We got some 1.75" hail last May, which was enough to put a few dents in the hood of my car! Golfball- and grapefruit-sized hail can be killers I would think! Compared to Texas and Oklahoma, New Jersey's spring weather seems pretty wimpy I guess, but it's all that more exciting when it does crank up a few notches. :)
