Been asked to show some N.&.N.J Scenes. Well here they are !

A tip before you do. Found that increasing all the MSTS settings to MAX, except ERROR TRESHOLD and no SHADDOWS, seems to improve the frequent Slowdowns to 0 FpS. Depending on the Power of your Graphics card of course !

Sorry about the HOBOKEN Terminal one. Haven't got any decent non-electric Passenger Consists yet. The Jap versions are out of place there and would cause a HOWL in some quarters ! :-)

Thanks a lot OttoDad for posting these pics!

They'll help a lot of us wondering whether or not downloading this large route is worthwhile.

It's certainly very detailed and some nice effects. Would probably look very good at night too.

I was intrigued by the X-crossover track - never seen it in the default routes.

Have you had any spontaneous decoupling problems with the NNJ route?

Thanks again.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-15-02 AT 10:09AM (EDT)[p]Thanks Barry,

Saves me E-Maling you that I did :-)

With regards to the excellent N.&.N.J. "TRACKS ATLAS", my Acrobat Reader did not print Page Numbers, not set up for ? Anyway, numbered them manually after realising that the small numbers on the OVERALL MAP refer to individual pages.

Will take a lot of time to learn all about the N.&.N.J. BRILLIANT DESIGN !

Next to run each of the 54 Starting Points and mark them on the Maps !

This is going to keep me busy for MONTHS ! Not to mention the WUPPER, PORT OGDEN and SEAVIEW Routes ! :),:),:),:),:),:),:)

So don't say you have not been warned !

P.S.: De-Coupling Problems ? Haven't got round to running Consists yet. Will be a while, want to EXPLORE all of it first, getting to know every corner in it :-)

The NNJ is the only route I'm using, though there are certainly
some fabulous others, but to me, the NNJ is home.

http://www.trainsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d0bb0ce6cb11fe2.jpg

The NNJ offers some spectacular industrial switching opportunities, as well.

http://www.trainsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d0bb1e5706fcc71.jpg

I haven't had UNcoupling problems, just the usual unpredictable
coupling issues long associated with MSTS. That can make planning
switching activities very tedious. Some cars work beautifully, others even by the same builder, not at all. Not an NNJ issue.

Many Thanks, especially to you, enocell;

I thought I would put up a couple of screenshots. I have been running on this route since around Beta 5, when it was called the Hoboken Shore RR. If you download any route, this is the one. It is immense and highly detailed. As a New Jersey native, I am totally hooked on this route.

Hey, where is all the Traffic on the Road Fly-over, that's what it is, yes ?

There is RUSHHOUR traffic on mine :-)

Had my train stopped somewhere, there was a road alongside it. 2 cars diving along steadily with another car catching up with them at high speed, suddenly slamming on it's brakes so as not to run into them. :-) On other roads crossing the track the train is running on, the cars just drive trough the train :7

I nearly pissed myself laughing. Who cares about PERFECTION there, it's entertaing. :-) Just hope TEEMU can improve the occasional Slowdowns a bit more !

Your word is my command ! :-)

NEWARK STATION. Is it just me or is the SANTA FE a bit on the small side, or are the Platform Roofs on the high side ? Tell us which after you come back from Newark !

I located all the N.&.N.J. "STARTING POINTS" on the N.&.N.J. Route Maps. Took 2 days to find them all ! :-)

So as not to keep you waiting until I can annotate all the pages and let you download the amended PDF, I summarized their locations in an EXCEL Spreadsheet you can DOWNLOAD Zipped from my site:

http://www.otto-wipfel.co.uk/oaw_00000b.htm

While I finished locating the Starting Points and the Spreadsheet this was cooking, NEW ZEALAND Leg of Lamb, sorry Barry :-). Lots of Garlic, black pepper and red wine ! Just put it in front of me and carve bits of it, dunking them in the gravy, YUM, YUM ! ...... Stop drooling :-)

Was a Chef once, had my own Delicatessen shops, was Supermarket and Superstores Manager, etc. etc. You name it , I done it ! I lost count of all the jobs and girls I had :7 You don't know half of OTTODAD yet !

Back to the subject of the N.&.N.J. !

You like lots of tracks ? Have a look at this lot. You will be running out of Downloads to fill all the yards in the N.&.N.J. :-)

I am going to E-Mail you a copy of a message I sent to Teemu, ENOCELL !

Think you might find the contents interesting ! I would appreciate your comments :-)

Teemu responded ! No need to reply to the copy I sent you. But I always appreciate anything guys like you have to say :-)

i cant wait to get my new system built, then i will get to run this route the way its meant, FULL SETTINGS W/O FRAME RATE STUTTERING!

Don't be disappointed if you don't !

My self-built machine is a FAST, LEAN & MEAN FUN Machine. I still get " 0 " Frame Rates in a lot of places.

I am addicted to it like a lot of others and can wait until ENOCELL / TEEMU has time to do a bit of "Filing" here and there ! :7

Indeed. You'll always get stuttering on disk access, even if your system otherwise kicks butt and takes phone numbers.

Anyone running MSTS on SCSI, or an 8MB-cache IDE? Better?

Rob.

reallly, darn, who does have an 8mb ide or a scsi drive?

LAST EDITED ON Jun-17-02 AT 01:15PM (EDT)[p]I edited the platform:
http://www.trainsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d0e17985aceb729.jpg

This area has some long pauses when driving, but after those it was quite smooth ride to the Jersey City. When the red HD light blinks, the game pauses.

Most of the signals were red and some were yellow and there was 40 mph limit after the yellow signals. Where did that come from, and why the signals are always red?

I got also one very strange error: failed to load some shapes and textures with very long train, but the same spot worked with short train(!)

One way to help the stutter is to compress the world and shape files, especially textures which are compressed but I'll try to compress them more with the DXT compression.

I have been looking at SCSIs too. My CHEETAH UltraDMA/100 IDEs are 5.9 ms, their SCSI version or IBM's 3.9 to 4.9. Not much in it !

What we are waiting for is UltraDMA/400 IDE, said to be in the pipeline. 4 times the Seek and Transfer speed should make a difference ! I wonder whether running a particular Activity or EXPLORE ROUTE in Memory (Ramdisk) would be possible one day ? MoBos with 2 Gb DDR SDRAM are now coming out, if we can afford that much Memory that is !

In the meantime we have to rely on Teemu to do best he can running his N.&.N.J. with "geriatric" MSTS :-)

Frequent Defragging the disk is another option if MSTS shares it with a lot of other stuff !

Looks much better now with the Platform Roofs lower !

Had my first attempt to create a FREESTYLE Activity for the N.&.N.J. using the CNJ-Jersey to Bayonne Path.

Had the Player Consist, my trusty Seaview City Express, at the Path Start and the triple Santa Fe the other side of the platform. Was able to throw the first switch but not the next crossing double switch (we call them Double Slip in the U.K.) and got stopped by the first Signal, being RED, drat x(

I AM NOT GIVING UP JUST YET, so there :7

Be careful with the doubleslips. The switching aid shows them incorrectly(sometimes left turn is straight etc.). There's the same problem with some other switches, even the Kuju 45 deg switch.

I like the ZZ TOP touch in the billboard. I also had a recent run where there was a car coming fast to the crossing and when the gate came down in front if it the car bounced in the air and flew backwards a few feet. If a real-life crossing gate could stop cars that well there would not be as many accidents at crossings.

You are right ! This Double slip is a DUD. The F8 indicator shows the correct Path alright, but the Blades don't move. All the others I have encountered so far work perfectly ! Still, the track layouts are some of the best in MSTS, despite the odd glitch here and there !

The RED Signals don't bother me. In EXPLORE ROUTE they provide a colour contrast but are ineffective ! Is there a way to make them do the same in Activities, EDIT some Files ? For me they are Decoration only !

This is my "Explorer" coming out of the CNJ-Jersey City Terminal approaching the DUD.
