Engine Type descriptions, working info, photos, etc

Is there any site, or document, that lists all the different engine types, their descriptions and working info (hp, speed, etc.), and perhaps photos?

This would be VERY helpful to new guys like myself.

No easy answer. You could start with

You would probably find it interesting trawling the archives in this forum, especially the General forum and the Microsoft Train Simulator forum, and would learn more than you expected this way. Many forum threads contain good links to other sites.

Also do a Web search on American railroads, railroad history and historical societies, visit your local library. The San Diego railway museum site (http://www.sdrm.org) is worth visiting. Rest assured, it all makes sense in the end!
