Can anyone tell me how to change the files on some steam engines to reference a set of cabview and sound files I have rather than the ESE files which I do not have and can not seem to get at this point. I don't want any of the ESE engines or anything else that is beyond circa 1900 or so. I hope someone can help as most of the steam engines reference the ESE files.
Thank you in advance.(remember I am no rocket scientist, so be specific if you can.)

This is going to require editing of the eng file and a couple of other things. I will give the easy way with no aliasing, granted this may not save space but it is by far the easyiest.
1. In windows explorer, move the cabview and sound folders you wish to replace to a safe place. This is so if things get screwed up thary are easy to locate and restore.
2. Copy the cabview and sound folders from the engine that you want to use in another and paste them into the engine folder that you want the new cabview and sounds. Make a note of the names of the two sms file in the sound folder and the cvf file in the cabview folder.
3. Open the eng file in wordpad. You will have to modify three lines in it. They are the 2 sms lines and the cvf line. You can use the search function to locate these lines. In the sms lines should look like this:
sound ( ***eng.sms ) and sound ( ***cab.sms )
The cvf line should look like this CabView ( ***.cvf )
with the *** the names of the files you made a note of.
