View Full Version : If an MSTS patch was released today, solving all of the problems with trainsim, eg moving turntables etc. - but meant that no existing locos or routes would work, would you download it:

Lol, that's so self-contradictory it hardly merits serious consideration. How could it possibly "solve all of the problems with trainsim" if none of the existing locos or routes work? ROFL.

On the other hand, it's such a brilliant marketing idea, Micro$oft/Kuju might just seize it. After all Micro$oft have been doing this for years with their various implementations of Windows.

Anything as valuable as this wouldn't be a patch, it would be the patched-up next version, payware of course. But that's no problem. There are so many existing fantastic trains and routes to be downloaded and explored, by the time I finish that I'll no doubt see MSTS v2 going for $10 in some basement bargain shop. That'll do me.

Hmmmm, could this be some kind of survey for MSTS2???

This is such a good question, I mean there are so many things I'd like fixed in MSTS, I think I would download the patch because while some of you have enormous amounts of downloads I prefer to keep mine limited so I guess it wouldn't be hard for myself to eventually switch everything over whether it be manually repainting everything or what have you, but I can understand why some of the Hardcore downloaders wouldn't like this at all, it's a good poll question.

The only downside would be I couldn't use Kicking Horse Pass which is by far my favourite add-on.

Ermmm No! this is just Euston asking a dumb question ROFL. But in all likelyhood this is what will happen with MSTS2. Just the same as it has done with every release of Flight Sim. In a way it's not a bad thing, because it pushes us designers to do better next time round.

Actually all of the problems with MSTS have been solved. And in fact, none of the exist MSTS locos or routes work with it. Many people have bought it and are enjoying it very much. It's call TRAINZ!

I'M KIDDING!!!!!!! Sorry, I just couldn't resist that one!

Why do you say that? MSFS has always been backward compatible between aircraft, scenery. albeit they naturall don't take advantage of the new sim's new features, but they have in the past either work out of the box or provide a converter program. This has always been one of MSFS strongest features. I don't see any reason to think they won't do the same with train sim.

You hit the nail on the head there!! "either work out of the box or provide a converter program." They don't work with the newer versions if they need a converter program to make them work. Ever tried to use a flightsim 95 aircraft in a newer version???

What I mean is that it is very very unlikely that MSTS locomotives will work out of the box in MSTS2.... But yes of course it'll be easy enough to use the shape files provided that you have the original source files OR a converter. However I as a designer would prefer not to do that.... I'd much prefer to use the original source files and improve them, adding the new features and capabilities.

Basically, I was asking if people would sacrifice all their MSTS locos for an updated MS.

Say - if MS were to give us the final version of MSTS (not the beta) as a free gift - but they had changed the locos, so they used a more flightsim like system.
