Evenin', folks.

I've gone back to the New Haven Merchants Limited tonight while tinkering, and I need to know something, namely how I modify the proper files to stop the observation car from calling the Train Artisan Empire State Express car set, which I do not have.

I've got several other observation/parlor/whatever cars that have music tracks playing or otherwise have sound inside them of people, and I think I could jerry-rig them to do so, but I'd appreciate the advice of more informed individuals than I.

There's also another issue that's cropped up. On a fresh reinstallation of the entire EP5 and its 1.1 update with additional steel coaches, I've got some very funny textures in the observation car, where the people are sitting around and doing their random things. The problem is this: The visible seats appear to be textured using the exterior of a car, because I can see the windows, the corrugation, and a fragmented phrase, "E EXPRESS" on the seats.

I've also got the Budd coaches for the NYC, PRR, and PC which appear to be largely like these, and they work perfectly.

Where are the offending textures, and how do I fix them?

The final thing is something I've gone over with Chuck before, but darned if I can dig the thread up, and it is thus: The bloody horn doesn't make any noise on the EP5, be it outside or in the cab. Anyone else run across this and know how to fix it? I'm not averse to hacking into the SMS, but I'd need to know what I was hunting.

Thanks in advance!

As an update, I managed to find the thread, but I'm going to hold off re-fixing the horn issue, because I remember that whatever fix I got around to applying wasn't much of a fix.

The sound went from nothin' at all to a faint toot of a horn and the crash of a bell, 'cause I had to crank up the sound rather high to hear it. Gah.

The "horn" on the EP5 is actually a whistle...a Hancock 4700. Very pretty sounding, the real ones were...but not worth a ##### for grade crossing warning (though in reality, the EP5's didn't encounter any grade crossings).

To fix them within the EP5...check that the three different locations within the cab.sms and eng.sms files have the .wav name EXACTLY as the actual sound -- there was a minor problem with this way back when they were all created. (I think the whistle sound is H4700.wav and x_H4700.wav -- and in the .sms's it is h471.wav and x_H471.wav THAT is the problem, the .sms's don't match the actual sound.

Thank you.

I just finished doctoring the SMS files to reflect the information you've given me, and if the NALW boys don't mind, I'll attach them to a post or something in order to make this work in the future, thus saving me, and anyone else who takes a notion to this question the trouble of posting multiple times.

The Hancock 4700 is quiet, but it can be heard in the cab pretty well. Outside, the HHP-8 sound set nearly drowns it out, but that doesn't take away from the pleasant sound.

I appreciate your help. Now all that remains is the modification of the Merchants Limited to get rid of that offending call to the ESE and the texture errors. You wouldn't happen to know anything about either of those, would you?
