View Full Version : No more mute AI trains!

So I've been messing with MSTS again.

I've made some modifications to the original genfeightwag sms files, added a wave file and look what we've got; AI trains that 'emit' sound so you can actually hear a train pass by. Not the same default rumble, no real sound. The wagons have flat spots, dry bearings and so on.

I'm actually looking forward for you to try it out and let me know what you think of it. I'm just enthusiastic ;)

Edit: this is a different approach than the one I posted on the 3Dtrains forum.

Why? If you have purchased either the UP or CSX pack from Deko, you got Dan's excellent AI sounds, all it is is a matter of aliasing to it. MLT's files are not that bad either.

, just the default rumble. With these modifications you can!

Go ahead and try it out, do me a favor ;) Maybe you'll like it?

Edit: html edit

Now for you who want to hear the AI trains from within the cab itself and would like to do a little DIY cut and paste from the deactivation field the Cabcam() and the Passengercam()(see the sms file below) to the Activation field. Some 3rd party engines have their own sound of course, look in the sound folder of the desired engine (inside the trainset/trains/your train/sound) and open up the **eng.sms and look for the ScalabiltyGroup (0 and do the same way with both cabcam and passengercam into the activation field.

This is the generic wave file found in the main sound folder. Other engines have of course different **eng.files.

Have fun.

Man, you make it sound like you invented the idea of AI sounds. My AI traffic has had sounds since I got the 3DPM sounds package early last year, and changed them all over in 5 minutes using EndMod.

Nope, I didn't invent it. The 3DPM package, can you hear those sounds also from within the cab? Then again, what I do is for free. Don't you like that then leave it.

Edit: added Leave it.

You're welcome Mike!

And for those of you thinking this is another sound for when you're outside the train, nooooo it's the sound you'll hear when you're sitting inside your comfy warm cab and when there's a train passing you on the other track, then you'll hear that trains sound inside the #1 view Cabine.

And forgot about this one;

This is the sound file for the standard AI engine. It's the sound from the GP38 but if you're willing replace those sounds mentioned in the gendiesel.sms file. (main sound folder!)

Replace the default gendiesel.sms with this one. Back up first though!
