There are quite a variety of sounds for GE FDL and EMD 645 engines availabe these days (FDL: Default, NALW, MLT/Streamlines, DieselsWest, 645: Default, NALW, MLT/Streamlines, DieselsWest, Dekosoft). Which of these various sound sets are closest to "real life"?

Streamlines and MLT i think have the best! Diesels west sounds won't work if you altered msts, you can read about that at DW. And theeeee
best SD40 sounds are Ron Furto's in the F/L. That's my opinion!

I'd place my vote for DW, if we're talking GE sounds. As for the sd40, I too would say that Furto's sounds can't be beat!

Did mr. Furto ever release a GP38-2 sound pack?

Ron Furto's SD40 sounds are hard to beat although I like the MLT sounds in KHP2.Hugh Reilly's Dash 9 sounds are good too, probably better than the FDL soundset.

Thanks for the tips, altho I think I'll stick with the MLT sounds for now, as they seem to have the most complete soundset (turbo and non-turbo 645, 710, FDL)

I think that Diesels-West has the best GE sounds. They sound like they are based on real recordings. The CNW C44-9W set I just bought is very true to the real locos I heard at Horseshoe Curve & videotaped 2 years ago. Their locos all differ slightly in pitch within the set, so it's not the same cookie cutter approach most others use. Plus their trailing units power up sounds great when the lead loco does the same.

MLT had some nice SD40 sounds in KHP, probably a little closer to those NS units I taped in Altoona.

I'd agree. Scott puts a lot of effort into the sounds for his units.

Fair enough but I'm primarily after 645 sounds (both turbo and non-turbo), 710 sounds and FDL sounds
