I understand that the geography "editor" doesn't bring any elevations into the route editor. What I am wondering: Is there any way to import DEM (Digital Elevation Models) into train-sim's Editors?
I know of a great library of DEM files (at the USGS) for free download. It would make things easier if we already had a good terrain model to start with.
Then perhaps we could start to make some real world routes of decent length. One that I have in mind is the California Zephyr from Chicago, IL to Oakland, CA. If I have to model all of the terrain by hand, the idea will stay where it is, in my head.
Please help!
