Well, for all that are interested, I thought I'd introduce the project I am working on and give a little background info.
I'm currently working on CSX's Lineville Subdivision which runs from Birmingham Alabama to Manchester GA. It plays host to a lot of Chicago-Florida traffic, including manifest, coal, auto, and TOFC traffic. A really good mix.
This line started its life back in the early 1900s (I cant remember exact years) as the Atlanta, Birmingham and Atlantic. Then it became the Atlanta, Birmingham and Coast and finally absorbed by the Atlantic Coast Line. The Lineville Subdivision soon earned the reputation of being the Coast Line's 'mountainous subdivision' as the line crosses straight through the Talladega Mountains a very rough and remote area located in east central Bama. Alabama's tallest peak is located here. This line was also home of the highest point on the Coast Line, located at 'Highland AL'. The old Coast Line marker is still located there.
Up to this point I have laid roughly 20 miles of mainline track between two sidings, Roanoke and Blake. I have yet to make any terrain modifications as I am still toying around with setting base elevations, etc. I plan on constructing the line as it was in the late 80s, early 90s. I also plan on backdating another version to represent late 70s, early 80s as soon as this version's trackwork complete.
As of 6/12 I finished adding the final tiles stretching from the Tallapoosa River all the way to Birmingham. I got the total down to a little over 300 for the whole route. So now all tiles are complete from Manchester to B'ham. I plan to keep pushing rails north to at least Talladega for now. Heading westward I'm currently at the Tallapoosa River crossing (a few miles west of Blake), then the line heads north along the Tallapoosa through Wadley to Cragford, where it then swings back west and makes its climb over the Talladega Mtns. I expect the phase from Cragford to Talladega will be the hardest out of the whole line as this stretch has numerous curves, steep grades and even a tunnel.
Hopefully in the next few weeks I will post a small website containing info about the line and the project. As soon as the weather clears up down here and I can start back flying, I plan on making as many aerial photographs as I can along the route.
Well, thats a little info for now. Look for more to come. If anyone figures out how to set the tiles, exact base elevation, please please PLEASE let me know.
I am looking forward to others filling us in on what they are doing and where they are at on their projects!
Best Regards,
Jim
