I noticed that you have only posted on the standard gauge route you are working on, and I miss the daily updates you always post on your NG route! ;)

So, how's it coming?

Appreciate the interest John.

The SC&N is alive and well. The trackage is essentically complete. Texturing of the surrounding mountains is progressing nicely. Some scenes are detailed to the point that they're "finished", but there's not many such scenes.

Next step is to continue the texturing and placement of nature elements, then it's on to learning Gmax so I can build the structures that the 1880's era needs. In all, it will be a looong time before the SC&N is ready for prime time.

In the meantime, my desire to further my diesel route has rejuvinated, and I will chase that rabbit until the ol' dog gives out.

Then it will be back to the SC&N.

I LOVE this part of simming... any theme/locale/era: Point, click!

This is why I make no ETA's on either route. I will simply work on them as the mood dictates.

I guess that's why they call it a "hobby" eh? ;)

I also miss daily updates. NG is far better from SG.

Thanks for your interest too, Jonathan.

As for narrow gauge being better than standard gauge, I seem to enjoy the contrasts between my two routes.

With my KC&G, I'm able to recreate scenes similiar to things I saw as a young railfan... but didn't realize the importance of the moment "back then". I was witnessing the passing of an era.

I was fortunate to be able to see firsthand the passing of Traditional Railroading as it moved into the Rebuild Era of the 70's, and then on to the Rationalization Period of the 80's that brings us to "now". The later has "blessed" us with about 4 or 5 national railroads, little switching, essentially no online small local industry, no cabeese, less railroad physical plant, much fewer railroads, less diversity, many disgruntled railroad employees that no longer enjoy their work, etc, etc, etc, etc. IMHO, anyway I slice it, todays railroading has resulted in great losses to this rail enthusiast. (No need for any to defend it, if you like it: Great, have at it. Enjoy it immensely. Traditional Railroading is certainly gone forever, but as I am prone to say, ANY trains are better than no trains at all.)

So, with my KC&G, I can again be among F units, Geeps, some Alco's, small towns with small industries, depots, and such things that I grew up with: The last of the Traditional Railroading.

On the otherhand, my SC&N lets me immerse myself into a world I have become fascinated with, but was never able to experience, as well as a locale that is so totally different than any where I have lived. Thus, it brings to the table entirely DIFFERENT reasons to enjoy it. Not better reasons (for me), but DIFFERENT reasons. It's continued enjoyment and furtherance is assured by nature of the fun and different rewards and experiences it brings with it.

Thus, I like the DIVERSITY that my two routes give me.

Downside: I'm cyclic. I will work on one for a while and neglect the other, then vice versa. Or, I may ignore both as I pursue some skinning project, or whatever.

I was this way with model railroading, except with much more expensive prices to pay for this downside to my hobby personality.

Fear not. Eventually I will be ready to shelve the KC&G and take a break from it, and then I will likely head back to the Rocky Mountains in the 1880's for a breath of fresh air that I'm confident my SC&N will produce at that time.

Have fun!

Andre
