The end is near! At least for Cumbres Pass v.2. But I'm trying to set some permanent speed limits across the 2 high trestles at Lobato and Cascade and have been having a few problems. Does one speed limit/resume pair of objects work in both directions? Or do I need to place both a speed limit object and resume object for each direction I'm heading?

Still have a few snow textures to complete, take care of a few glitches in the terrain, and generate a good default activity, and the route should be ready for some testing. I've already taken a train from Antonito to Chama, although it's been over the course of several months, but the mainline all seems to connect and carry trains over it, so that's a good start.

This evening's journey was from MP 328 (just west of Cumbres) on into Chama. A few shots of the action...

Just starting the 4% downgrade around Windy Point:

Almost there - idling through the aspens just below the Lobato trestle:

Just another beautiful day at the "office" in the northern New Mexico mountains -

Speed llimits only work for one direction, so you will need a speed limit and a resume sign for each direction.

Mike - thanks. I thought that was the case, but now I'm facing a problem with how to arrange the objects so that the speed limit is "boxed in." This is what I've got now:

Antonito -R-S-[Trestle]-S-R - Chama

where R is resume and S is set limit. The problem is that the line between Antonito and the trestle now shows a speed limit of 10 mph, which is supposed to be the limit for the trestle only. Below the trestle (the Chama side), the speed limit resumes its route default value. How does MSTS know what direction you're moving in? Does it look at some numbering of the objects to know what comes first and what comes second?

Wish I could help more, I have a bridge on the CGW that has a 30 mph limit on it. Had the same problem, and never figured out how to solve it, so I just dropped it.

I don't know if I was lucky or whether my logic was correct, but I was able to put down a speed limit for the trestle alone. I think it's got to do with the sequencing of object placement. Here's what I did:

S1 = speed limit 1
R1 = resume 1
S2 = speed limit 2
R2 = resume 2

Antonito --- R2-S1-[trestle]-S2-R1 ---- Chama

I placed them in this sequence - S1 1st, R1 2nd, S2 3rd, R2 4th. I think that before I had placed them in this sequence - S1, R1, R2, S2. Even though the placement locations were the same for both attempts, the placement sequence was different.

I should probably look at the appropriate world file and see what difference it makes. I'm still having some difficulties in sorting out the proper arrangement of speed limit/resume objects that I need to re-create the prototype route's operating restrictions. I'll report on what I find out.

I did that and it worked, so it must be the order they are placed in.
