View Full Version : How can you change saved activities?

Hello!

The situation:
I want to make an activity, where you drive to one point with one loco, then save the game, and after that continue with another loco from the same point.

It's no problem to manually change the consist in the "service" file of the activity and it starts with the new consist when you restart the activity.
But when you load the saved game, there's still the old consist.
And the saved game seems to be stored in binary format!

Any ideas how to solve this problem?

Thanks &
Greetings,
Roni

Hi

I think you'll find that rather than running the saved activity,
you'll have to define a completely new activity that starts
with the changed consist and has everything set up as the
other activity was when you exited it.

As far as I know, there's absoultely no way to change from one
loco to another within an activity.

But how to get the exit point, if it's not predefined?

It's not saved in activity evaluations or something like that.

Hi

I think this is what you are asking...

When defining an activity you can define the exact point where
the locomitive must reach and when it gets there you can have
the activity automatically end.

You can then define a new activity where the old train is
sitting where the other activity ended but the new activity is
defined with a new loco/consist as the player one. You can't
use the parameters from another saved activity, you must just
make it look like it's the same as the other avtivity. As said
another Activity designer, it's just a stage and you're the
director.

There appears to be no way for an activity to actually get info
from a saved activity and change to reflect what it finds. You
can run a saved activity or run a defined one but you can't mix
the two. By the way, when I say saved activity, I'm referring
to the "F2" save game, not to an activity saved by the activity
editor.

I agree with Gary. It has been my experience that if you save an activity in progress, it 'locks in' the train consists, paths, services and other stuff in the activity editor. If you use activity editor (or ConBuilder) to change the consist, and then attempt to reload or restart the saved activity, the program will either crash or fail to start. As Gary says, the only solution is to create a whole second activity that is identical to the first except for the changed consist, and has a start point where the first activity ended. When you complete the first activity, you can then end #1, start the #2 activity, and pick up where you left off but with the changed consist.
Sorry about that, but it just seems to be one of the limitations in MSTS.
