The dreaded black window shows up lately on my comp.
It tells me when something is wrong, but It is only there for half a blink, then it turns black. the only way out is with Ctrl+Alt+del, and stop task or words like that. Then it comes back, sometimes. Most the time it gives me another window saying that it does not know what to do, end task I believe it calls it.
So I do that and it flashes on again. If I am fast enough I can read the message to know what is wrong, if not I have to exit etc.
Anybody know what, why and how to fix.
Thanks,
Ted.

sounds to me like either you need more RAM, need to run Scandisk/Disk Defragmenter, and/or to turn the computer off for about 2-3 hours so it can cool down...if you don't have the time to do either, try to save and restart as fast as you can..it won't cure the problem but it sometimes delays it from happening long enough so you can finish what you're doing...

Thanks for the answer.
I have almost 400 RAM, have just defraged, about having to give my darling some rest, heck, he sleeps more than I do.
This black window is the little one that comes up when TS thinks I do something stupid, or it can't find this or that. It gives me the message for a sec and then turns black and sits there while I wonder what the problem is.
very annoying. I'll take a pic next time.
Any other ideas?
Thanks, Ted.

Ted,
If you have a geforce card, make sure you have the 28.32 driver.

LAST EDITED ON May-30-02 AT 10:41PM (EDT)[p]Derek,
I don't even have that. Mine is only a plain celeron 600 with built-in video thingy. Not very fast, but I can get now +-12 fps, good enough for me.
I don't know if you ever seen one of these invisible windows, I think there was a post about that months ago. Except mine aren't invisible, they are black. And it just started a couple weeks ago. When they are black, you can't find out what went wrong, nor can you click the 'continue button with yes/no. It seems to be such a window.
Maybe I have reached a limit with something, consists?
Can't be, only got 500+.
I try to avoid getting the "Black Windows" by not fooling around too much, you know, rearranging .cvf or such.
But thanks for the answer.
Ted.

Ah, it may be something else other than train-sim itself..
It does that to me a lot when there's another program running besides MSTS, that wants to get my attention, so it tries to minimize the MSTS window, but MSTS doesn't like that, and wants to remain active, so the two programs argue with each other, trying to open and close the same window at the same time, thus the black screen.
my advice is to close all programs, including your antivirus program and your internet connection, before running MSTS..
Does this help???

Darkfyre,
Thanks for that suggestion. That may be it. Funny, I used to turn everything off before starting TS, but then I added more RAM and forgot about that.
Don't know yet if it works now, but I bet that it just might.
Thanks again.
Ted.
