We have uploaded and Nels has now made available in the library a much improved sound package for our Genesis Locomotive Packs...
Gen_Snd2.Zip is based on the 3Dtrainstuff SD70 engine modified with sound samples recorded from an actual P32 (Prime Mover, Horn, Bell and Air Compressor Sounds) by our own Matt Donnelly! It also contains Brake Squeal and Rumble noises by Joseph Realmutto... This sound package is the GE equivelent of the high quality sound package included with our F40!
It definately doesn't sound like a Cessna anymore!

Thank you all for your efforts that went into this updated sound package. It is really great!
(Remember I was commenting on how the original sounded a bit strange on my computer??? The upgrade doesn't sound strange at all, it's just about perfect in my book!)

What about sound for units that aren't producing HEP?

LAST EDITED ON May-04-02 AT 02:58PM (EDT)[p]As I noted on another forum.. That doesn't matter on a Genesis as they don't need to run the Prime Mover at a constant speed for HEP frequency control since they use an Inverter off the Generator not an alternator like the F40s do....
You can't usually tell if a Genny is producing HEP or not by listening to it... We'll maybe if you work on them... as they MAY idle in RUN 2 instead of Run 1 if they are carrying a very heavy HEP load... (Auto Train comes to mind) But it is very hard to tell if you are outside and not inside the cab looking at the instruments...

Actually, the one unit that is producing HEP idles in Run 6. This is the sound included in the Genesis sound pack.

LAST EDITED ON May-04-02 AT 05:28PM (EDT)[p]You maybe right! I thought it was run 1 or 2 and since the engine Matt recorded was a single hauling cars it would have been supplying HEP! Here on the east coast NEC except for the Auto Train, Cardinal, Cresent (And these two go past my commuter station at 70mph) Silver Service and the odd Loooong Twilight Shore Liner it is fairly rare to see them double headed. However we don't have any plans to address that any time soon as the difference in sound is no where near as great as it is on an F40 (Most people can't tell the difference - unlike the F40 which even a deaf person can because of the "vibrations")! If it bothers you, in the interim you could use the default DASH9 sound system for any Units not supplying HEP! Since a P42 is Dash9 mechanicals under a Genesis Skin! Or wait for our upcoming GE-FDL Roadswitcher sound package and use that!

Yes, I do suppose I could use the Dash 9 sounds with it. Your upcoming FDL sound package sounds good... I think most everything will sound more realistic than the default Dash 9 sound, especially in the external views.

Will the FDL sounds be compatible with the U36B?

They should be compatible, more or less, with all GE Roadswitchers.... I was prompted to build them because my 5 year old grandson and I were playing MSTS together after spending a day chasing trains ( Gotta Train the Early LOL!) and he pointed out that the Dash9 didn't sound "Ka-Junky" enough!
And after I thought about it I realized he was right!

BTW CSX-ALine and Alabama Railfan are on our early Christmas List and will get them early enough to integrate into your engines!

WhooooHooooo! Thanks a million, Chuck! Can't wait! I have been on a slight hiatus, but these sounds should be perfect for some more GEs in the future! Thanks again for all your hard work!
