View Full Version : The " - 1 " in .ENG and CAB .sms files?
What is the -1 that appears after the wav file in the sms files?
Does it lower the sound?
I've tried to remove all the negative 1's in a dash9 eng and cab sms for a test - but it only locks up MSTS.
Is there anyway to make the Dash9 louder?

They on't seem to have anything to do with volume. One of the sms files refers to the -1's in terms of relating to blocks.
If you use a .wav file that has cue points (or markers) then you will find that the -1 causes the file (when activated by StartLoopRelease ) to be played up to the first marker then continuosly in a loop between the first and the last marker. On a RealeaseLoopRelease trigger the file finishes playing the loop then plays from the last marker to the end of the file. This is how the horns/whistles are made to have variable length.
Using a number other than -1 seems to have little benefit. With PlayOneShot I have found that 0, 1, 2, etc will cause only the start to first marker, first to second, second to third, etc section to be played.
To increase the volume you should first check that any Volume() statements contain a 1. If thats not the case you need to increase the basic volume of the .wav file using a editor. Actually, the Windows Sound Recorder will do the job.
