Is there a way to play all on the same tracks? See other players managing trains, etc?

If so could someone direct me to a quick walkthrough.

Is there an IRC chat channel for Train-Sim.Com ?

also

Teamspeak channel for multiplayer that is online most of the time?

thanks much! Rich

Be sure to read the anchored posts at the top of this message board. It should go into some of the details of what I'm going to say below.

MSTS does not have the ability to do multi-player to the point of seeing the other trains. I along with others have looked into ways of tapping into MSTS to allow this, but the program is too close ended to allow this manipulation to take place.

What happens is you run your trains in Explore mode on the route that is called for by the host of a session. Most session calls are followed by a list of trains. From there you can either reply to the thread to reserve your spot, sign in to Teamspeak as the train ID, and join the session at the called apon time.

There is no IRC. All you need to do is check this message board for an announcement of an upcoming session. Right now I see there are actually 2 sessions scheduled for this Saturday night. You would log onto the Teamspeak server, through the teamspeak client. From there you can listen in on the happenings, or join in if you follow the instructions by the host.

With your train ready at the starting location in MSTS, you then receive clearances by the host and/or dispatcher. Normally you would report signals, or where you train has cleared from depending on the control system being used. When you do meet a train, you do not see it. Rather you hear it in the form of radio chatter back and forth between you, the dispatcher, and the other user of the train. It's up to your imagination to know the train is there, but the fact is at the same time someone across town, across the country, or across the world is running the same simulation and he is in the adjacent track with a wave to the invisible you :)

The Teamspeak server is up 24hrs/7 days a week. Many times you'll find someone on the server looking to talk. On the odd ocasion an impromtu session comes up.

Hope that helps!

Sean

Glad I could help.

I've noticed alot of newcomers lately. This is great.

I wonder how many people heard you on the Let's Talk Trains show from a couple weeks back?

Thanks

Sean
