Hey all. Christmas brough me good tidings and cheer. It also brought me the Canon Powershot S3 IS. Wow. This is quite the nice camera. I went nosing around CP's Bensenville Yard and surrounding areas yesterday. Good stuff!

1. CP ES44AC 8796 and CP SD40-2F 9022 take a rest at the house on this day after Christmas.

2. One of two Soo Line painted MP15s sits on the RIP lead off of Green Street.

3. CP GP38-2 3019 sits quiet at the east end of Bensenville Yard, but not for long as the yard crew showed 5 minutes later.

4. Sittin in the eastbound departure yard was a unit that I knew was there and went through hell to get a photo of. Delaware and Hudson GP38-2 7303 sits waiting for a crew on a manifest bound for Windsor, Ontario, Canada. For anyone wondering, as of 12:25PM CDT, the 7303 is IN Windsor.

5. A few minutes later and out of nowhere, IC&E's M-AUCC (Austin, SD to BRC Clearing) train came around Mannhiem curve eastbound with dynamic brakes fully engaged.
http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/9097/img0046uf0.jpg

6. B-17 held the IC&E train for a transfer run from BRC Clearing with Soo Line GP38-2 4402 pointing CP GP38-2 4520 and CP GP40-2 4620. CP 4520 is an ex-Norfolk Southern HH GP50 rebuilt by NRE at Silvis, Illinois.

7. As the tail end of the westbound clears onto 5 Lead, DM&E SD40-2 6076 accelerates the M-AUCC through Junction B-12 on it's way to Cicero Jct with the BRC.

8. Back at the house, the sun has come out to light up the Indiana Railroad SD60 6006. Excuse the shadow.

Sorry Jason, a few days late. I gave it to the g/f so she didn't have to use her 2 megapixel piece of crap anymore. ;)

I thought digital SLR, but I wanted something that could take video. This camera takes video in 640-480 at 30fps with stereo sound. It's got 6 megapixels with 12x zoom. $430 from Canon.

Yea ive got no real need for video. I at one time wanted to get a digital video camera but in order to get the best video i'd have to let my still photo quality drop in order to pan with the train. For now I can live with my Kodak Z740 considering it doesnt do a half bad job, but a digital SLR would be a hell of a big help when it comes air show photography or any other fast moving objects.

Great shots John, looks like your enjoying your new camera already ! BTW CP242 with the D&H 7303 made it leading all the way to Toronto where the train terminally ends at, lucky for you to catch it in daylight though, but not so fortunate on the other end over here as she came by at night.

Good catch with the 9022 in the first photo, John... IIRC it's the only SD40-2F to be painted in the "dual flags" scheme.

CP 9022 and 9000 both wear the Dual Flags paint scheme.

John, 3 things...
1. Great Shots
2. Do you know Ian Murray?
3. Do you happen to know where I can find a detailed railroad map of Chicago? I plan to come out there in April with Ian.

7303, so close yet so far. D&H #'s 7314-7324 are xLV units #'s 314-324, some are gone, but I know for a fact alot of them are still at work for CP. Did you find any of them up there. It would be interesting to see what condition they're in.

O and to NS fans, somewhere down there in west Virgina, VA & western PA, plus the NS chattanooga shops sit the 4 LV GP38AC now NS 5555 through 5558, i think, Have fun, & GREAT PICS!!!!!

As noted, CP retains only three D&H painted units, the D&H 7303, 7304, and 7312. The rest are in CP paint.

I have a Canon Powershot S3 IS I just bought a week ago today. Awesome camera. You can also put a telephoto or wide-angle lens on it. I am saving up to buy telephoto and wide angle lens.

I just recently saw that Delaware and Hodson, #7303, in Canadian Pacific paint. It had a small D&H simbol on the hood above the C and the P.

I've seen 6006 run through here, Bloomington, Indiana, several times. She's usually pulling the IPL hops. I have a video of an INRD mixed freight. The lead loco is an ex-Soo unit. Can't catch the running number, though.
