Hmmm.....
My Electric engine is NOT moving!
It is extremely hard to uncouple and the marker lights dont work on the cab car when the train is traveling.

Is there a flow chart for steam?
At least the slipping is back correct again.
Still to test the changing cabs fuel problem as yet.
Will report back.

See Rich's thread on problems with electrics ( has to do with how they are initialized, especially if they are moving at the start of an activity ). As to uncoupling, you need to use an updated default.wag file to make uncoupling function better. It will also help to use almost any of the coupler sets that have been optimized for MSTS Bin.
There are some lighting issues still present in Bin. First, some configurations that "worked" under MSTS do not work the same under Bin. And, for now, the "built-in" FRED's in some rolling stock will be "on" on all cars parked in sidings. The solution is to add the Service condition ( Service ( 2 ) ) to the lighting sections. This will still work correctly without Bin.

I sincerely thank and respect Mr. George for this work. However, I like the other version of Bin better. I just liked how the display was at the start of the game to pick your locomotive and consist. I must have over 75 engines to choose from and it is hard to pick from that small box.
I also liked the way that no matter what, my electric engines still moved. Until this is fixed later on, I will uninstall it for now.
Is the other version anywhere out there??
I hate MSTS without Bin as Diesles and Electrics will not work together, I.E, I have a regular Commuter train (Nj Transit) ALP-44 (Electric) Comet-Comet-Comet-Comet-Comet (Coach Cars) Comet Cab car (Diesel) when you are in the cab and press the bell, it goes into emergency brake... I never figured that out!!
If someone could find the other version of Bin, I would greatly appreciate it.

To start the electric loco if it does not want tho start simply press the alerter reset key. About small box to pick engines did you copy the two .dlls from the language dll subfolder into the root folder of Train Simulator?

This is absolutely wonderful! To have the equations in a flow chart for the physics!!! That is truly awesome! Man, that takes out all of the guesswork and makes life so much better! Now we can actually make educated decisions in files, instead of education guesses!

Where do I find that stuff? I am really a rookie. So don't laugh at me!
And when should I press the reset? After the brakes release... before? I tried and it still won't move

Hey Otto. I downloaded the Bin, and I love it. George did a fantastic job. No slip, no brake problems. I'm sure there are things I haven't seen yet, but you can't expect total perfection from an experimental project. The throttling up of all the units in the consist took this game to a whole new level. I can't even begin to explain it. The only thing I would like back is the extended menus when selecting the locomotive you would like to run. Same with patch selection and all that. Those were really nice to have. Other than that, a big thanks to George and the MSTS Bin Beta Team. Ya'll did one hell of a job this time around!

Hi Otto, thanks for the reply.Does that mean if I have the last good patch (1.7.022420) I have the amended default wag file?I must say that version works fine apart from the electric loco bug.The only thing I want to see is the helper locos sound fix (and maybe the brake sound fix)
ragtimer

A workaround would be to make the Cab Car an electric loco.Just amend the eng file.Re the small window to select your loco, there is a fix in the FL which sorts this problem independent of Bin.It is in either the utilities or miscellaneous section.

Hi Otto,
Thanks for all the help you and the other guys have been providing with the Bin. One of the features I noticed today running the new Bin is that when you move along the train from car to car you hear car wheel sounds all along the train--before it was just at the end of the train. The multiple engine sounds are almost overpowering for this den. I am now sure my wife will never come in to use her computer when I am running Train Sim--too much noise for her.
Give George a special thanks from me for improving the game. Train Sim just got a whole lot better.

How about a flow chart for steam?
Or has everyone forgotten about it?
At least the latest patch is so far great slippage wise.
ie they are slipping when meant to.
Looks like any of the locos setup for MU operation instead of AI operation will now need cabviews , and then maybe the fuel or lack of after changing cabs might be solved.
So far no success, but going to try it a different way tonight so will report back for the steam guys out there.
Are there any steamers left out there?
I repeat the question.
Is there a flow chart for steam????

What I mean is the release this thread is about causes dark signals, I'm still on 1.7.0211 for now.
It happens on acts with a fair amount of AI at the start. Uninstalling BIN causes it to clear up (lights and signals are back), and I can run up through 1.7.0211 and keep the engine headlights and signal lights.

Charlie,
This is an issue that is "on deck" for the Bin Test Team. George has the final say as to what to work on, but he really is trying to solve the "major" issues. I personally think that it is related to the "lost consists" ( what we refer to as loose consists ) having all their FRED lights flashing when in a yard. 1.70211 doesn't do this. The next version did. For actual running I am using 1.70211 myself. I do like the change for engine sounds, and I think the light thing can be fixed.

Otto,
I have a serious problem on my end: while my steam and diesels work properly, I cannot even get but one of my many PRR GG1's to turn a wheel, whether hitting the Z key or not. Am I doing something wrong here?
I have an AEM7 on my system as well, and this works properly with that Z function activated.
While I am impressed with the stability of this release, there are still some bugs that I believe need ironed out.
I am impressed though to finally be able to hear my Helpers rev up with my player unit.
I have already patched up to your new Default.wag file you listed. What else can I do to these to make them work?
Thanks in advance,
atsf37l

NJT, are you using Marc Nelson's beta GUI? I have that same problem on my main Train Simulator with Marc's GUI but on my mini routes which don't have it, no problems - same old dropdowns. This may be a problem only with that front end.
ericson38
06-06-2007, 07:42 PM
Joe,
You are right. My loose consist's FREDs are all on (the last car) with the latest one.
Interestingly, the first version of BIN with AI throttle proportional sounds resulted in all the cars in loose consists with flashing FREDS on my system. I would come up on a yard, and I could see in the distance ahead 5 or 6 of them, looked like autos in a line with turn signals on.
The sounds are indeed terrific, with the last BIN.
Off in the distance, I hope that BIN can accomodate sounds for helper steam, the SP Cab Forwards would really sound terrific double headed over Donner with Bin enabled helper sounds....but I'm just thinking of what lies ahead for us all.

None of my wagons apart from those which have a tail lamp modelled on the wagon have lights.I always use either the "Flasher" available in the FL or the "FRED" unit incorporated in KHP version 1 available as freeware on the CPR site.Much more realistic,it also eliminates the "too many lights" bug. However,in UK any raft of wagons stabled in a yard will have a tail lamp attached to one end and working.

Hi Gary !
No issues with my Payware version, as far as I am aware of !
I don't think that the MSTSBin patches have anything to do with what the Conbuilder or the Route Riter check as far as rolling stock is concerned ?
To me the Conbuilder is what is says, a utility to assemble, edit and view rolling stock and consists in various Train.exe versions MSTS copies TRAINS folders. Anything else the Route Riter can do ! ;-)

That's because, as delivered from the factory, the L&PS electrics do not define an alerter reset control. You can add one by adding the following line to the ENG file in the EngineControllers section.
Vigilance ( 0 1 0 )
You do not need to define a VigilanceMonitor section or a control in the cabview file.

Guys,
Iver perfomred a test on mostly all the electrics and have come to a conclusion. There is some factor in alot of these units that is causing the engine to fail to operate.
I performed a test using the new release of Bin with the NALW GG1 Megaload, the NALW MP54, NALW NEC megapack electrics, Island Electric PRR P-5 Boxcab, and the PRR B-1.
During this test, I used the workaround to try to make these units run.
All units, with the Exception of the GG1 megaload, ran. The GG1's on the other hand, refused to even turn over a wheel.
The engines listed unsed were:
Island Electric B-1
Island Electric P-5
NALW GG1 4800 (Conrail Blue Freight geared unit)
NALW GG1 4935 (5 Stripe DGLE passenger geared unit)
NALW AEM7 Electric, Amtrak 905
NALW MP54 Set
Would anyone care to investigate please?

I only looked at the NALW GG1 4800 unit. In the EmergencyStopMonitor section change
MonitoringDeviceAppliesCutsPower( 0 )
to
MonitoringDeviceAppliesCutsPower( 1 )
The Alerter Reset toggle will then restore power. I don't know why this works, it is possible that without this flag set MSTS doesn't know that the Alerter Reset can restore power.

06-10-2007, 07:22 AM
Hi Rich !
Another method is to Comment ( AWSMonitor ( .... ) ) and the train starts without having to reset anything ! ;-)
Perhaps you know what Pavel means in this post on the MSTSBin web site, which seems to have something to do with why some trains won't start ?
Checked out new patch manual, and have found, that you seemed to have removed from 3xF5 diagnostic screen indication of BC/BP/AR/BF for each car in consist.
That was very useful sometimes. Of course, 3xF5 screen is overloaded now. By the way, some information is really excessive and long consists weren't present there completely. But is it possible to make some key, or parameter in command string (like train.exe /trainbrakestest) to show that information ?
Example:
As long MSTS can`t really handle EP brake functions (yet, I hope), when we have built a passenger train where for some carriages EP brake was described at *.wag-file, there the brake can`t be released with all other, so train can`t roll after applying and releasing autobrakes.
Diagnostic screen helped to find such cars quickly, so they could be removed from train, or corrected in *.wag-files...
He also said this in another thread:
One man from Kiev, known as Slava Usov wrote 3 little programs, one records parameters from simulation, second performs that text file as speedmeter`s tape (graphically) and third is modified Train.exe, that can work with that recorder (supplies that data).
My dream is that new BIN Patch could report MSTS data like this: http://get.zdsim.kiev.ua/util/rashifrovka.rar
That could be useful for some of you ! ;-)

Otto,
Placed that little edit mentioned about the control settings, and sure enough, those GG1's finally rolled Eastbound with the BLLW MSTS 2007 3D Modelers Convention Special train.
Thanks to all those who tested and those that found what needed fixed.
Question-I'm new to the Bin Patch, never having installed it before.
I'd like to use it on the W&A route I'm working on.
My question is-If I use it while working on the route in RE, will others have to install the patch to use this route?
As you may know there are 2 of us working on this route. I'm doing the track work and Zoe is doing the scenery. If I install it and send her the route (it's set up as a mini-route) will she have to install the patch as well or will it be installed in the copy I send her?
Edit 1: As for the question of whether the Bin Patch will go to Zoe with the route, I think I just answered my own question.
It appears the Patch does not install into the route but installs into the main folder of the mini-route.
I guess that would answer my first question too. I assume she would have to have it installed since it's not in the route.
OTTODAD
06-17-2007, 08:55 AM
Hi Ed !
Any route will run with any version of the Train.exe, but will not get the benefits of MSTSBin enhancements like extended outside views, the third F5 display, the enlarged RE Objects Placement window, the new GUI images, too many objects in a tile not causing problems, better memory management, etc, etc !
The most significant MSTSBin improvements involve rolling stock. All unmodified for new MSTSBin lights locos will work with all versions of the Train.exe, irrespective of any *_rv.cvf files or NIGHT folders being present, but the modified ones with a MSTSBin patched one only !
Take care, O t t o.

I installed the latest MSTSBin patch 1.7.051922 yesterday. Since then all my RR crossings look like this. It affects any RR crossing and any route! This was not the case before I installed the latest release of the patch. There's not a single chance to put the roads over the tracks. They always stay under the tracks no matter what you try in the RE.
Think this is a very important issue!

07-26-2007, 01:11 PM
Hey Otto!
Thanks for your reply! ;)
I installed the NewRoads package that supports dynamic shadows. I can try to roll back to the normal NewRoads package (without the shadow option). Actually all of those NewRoads packages should be standard. It's just a custom road texture which I applied...
I'll give the latest update a try and let you know what happened.
Thanks again!
Otto - the default roads do not contain the "Test" alpha material, and is probably why the default roads cut through the rails - come to think of it, I don't believe the default roads contain any alpha at all. FWIW, the Test material is to allow dynamic shadows to display over track and road, but their use causes other issues, such as each fighting for display priority. Both New Roads and ScaleRoads use the Test material, although Steven has provided an optional version without the Test switch.
Cheers!

Otto,
Marc is right with his statement. The track always forces priority when there's a road piece with an alpha channel involved. The latest update didn't fix the problem. But the roll back to the standard NewRoads package (without dynamic shadow support) took care of the problem.
Not a problem to use those standard road shapes as long as there is no workaround.
Thanks Otto and Marc! ;)

Every new version of Bin wants to be installed on a pristine copy of MSTS, plus the 1.2 update. Does anyone know, what is the absolute minimum set of files from the original CD and the MS update that will satisfy the conditions Bin needs?
By dint of sheer genius, I managed to lose the backup I made of my MSTS installation prior to installing Bin for the first time. And thanks to another bout of genius, I hosed up the current Bin's ability to uninstall itself. So now I'm stuck until I figure out how to get a clean copy of MSTS without making things even worse by laying down a new install from the CD on top of my current setup.
OTTODAD

Hi Bob !
You can install MSTSBin into any copy of MSTS, pristine or not, as long as it has a December 2001 1.2 / 1.4 Train.exe in it's root folder and the MSTSBIN_BACKUP folder has been deleted !
If you need a pre-MSTSBin copy of folders and files then you can get them here:

Dear Bob,
I regularly install The Bin version I want into a empty file, then copy and paste the Bin train.exe, string.dll, and dialog.dll from that version of Bin into the Train Simulator installation I want to have Bin on.
The minimum to install the Bin into an empty file is to paste a v1.2 train.exe into the empty file. Bin will install when it finds v1.2 train.exe. That must be the minimum.
Hope this helps.
