I have operated MSTS since the software came out and have accumulated over 600 locomotives and 1,300 pieces of rollingtock. Currently, MSTS takes a considerable long time, say five minutes, to get me from the loading screen to the screen where I can selected a locomotive, activity, etc. I was wondering what I can do to correct this problem. I experimented with installing a virgin copy of the MSTS on my hardrive and this version of MSTS loads very quickly. Therefore, I was wondering if the slowness factor is an inheritant problem with MSTS software and not solely attributed to my computer which is a Dell Dimension 4600

My computer computer specs:

Machine name: WALTER-UD22RST9

DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode

I have a NVIDIA GeForce 7600 and 2GB of Ram. Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,
Walter

Walter,

I doubt there is anything particularly wrong with your computer. I think it is about time you get Train Store...

No doubt along with all that rolling stock you also have quite a few routes and consists. It is just too much for MSTS to handle, even with 2 gigs of memory and your processor.

Yes, I hae to agree with Paul, you need Train Store. It's in the file library here.

Thanks guys for your help. I already have Train Store installed, but haven't used it in a while. Interestingly, I only have 4 routes with my primary MSTS installation and a stand-alone version for one route.

Sincerely,
walter

The way MSTS works is; when you fire up MSTS, instead of waiting until you select a route and activity, then loading that route and consist(s), it loads all routes and rolling stock at the beginning. So if you have a lot of rolling stock files MSTS loads all of them when you fire it up.
That might help to explain why it loads so slow because of all the rolling stock files you have.
