I have finally gotten my shop computer online with a wireless network. Since it has been an isolated machine, I have not had a virus program on it for performance reasons while running RS and MSTS. I have access to Norton, but, having had it on my house computer, never discovered how to disable it.
Is it possible to disable it while running the simulators?

It should present an icon (often more than one) in the "system tray" which you can right-click and disable. If no icon is visible, either normally or after expanding to show hidden icons, then starting the program again from its Start Menu entry should bring up a window which you can use to turn it off. (And to turn back on the Tray Icon)

I'll have to look and see if I can find that.
Thanks.

From what I can tell reading the output of Procmon.exe, Norton A-V seems to have attached itself to the systems own file read processes... meaning every .w, .t, .ace, etc, file used by MSTS while you are running a train gets scanned by Norton for viruses before it lets the data go to the game.
In my own testing it appears that disabling it will give a couple of extra fps in MSTS performance when the game is doing disk reads.
No idea what's going on w/ earlier versions.
