Hey folks...

Let's say I wanted to change what files the new EMD S1 switcher uses for engine sounds, etc. Currently it seems to default to the SD40 sounds, which although functional doesn't really sound too realistic. What would be better would be somehow getting the S1 to use the same sounds used for the "Brittkits" GP9 engines, as at least this would get rid of the howling turbo noise :-)

The GP9 folders include an "audio" folder, which has all the sounds used for it's simulation. How do I go about telling the S1 Simulation to use that folder for it's sounds??

You will need to look inside the Engine.bin file for references to where the various sounds are coming from. Changing the path name on these should get you to the sound folder you are looking for.

I made her work, Bill!

After I managed to find the .bin file that had the reference to the default SD40 sounds, I experimented changing the line to direct it to the "Britkits" engine sounds. At first this didn't work, as i figure the root directory the xml file is pointing to didn't match up. What did work was copying the "audio" folder from the Britkits folder, and placed in the 'RHAM" folder. Once this was done and the references changed, it WORKED!!

This model might not be up to the same graphic standards as others in this game, but having more realistic sound really helps. I'm going to continue experimenting with this, such as using the F7 sounds, as those have better generator whine noise and the engine doesn't sound like a cummins KTA :-)
