yet again it's all about graphics...
I just watched the trailer, it still sounds really boring in the cab: no joint sounds, nothing to indicate speed - sound-wise.

Lots of editing tools - but no mention of being able to edit or create sounds.

I haven't played RS1 at all in months, as MSTS sounds leave it in the shade. MSTS sounds like a train simulator. RW is still not much more than a pretty moving-scenery generator.

Pass.

Dunno, I've been following the posts, but I'll probably need to break down and actually get it so I can dig down thru all the icing myself to see if there's actually a cake under all that. Problem is the majority buy the icing, oooh look at the people walking around on the platforms and they actually get on and off the train when the doors open, and looky all the pretty flowers. Huh? Oh yeah, you CAN drive the train if you want to, wow looky the cars moving on the road. Guy in Germany expressed the opinion that RS was a good tree and water simulator, but needed proper signals and AI traffic logic to be an actual train simulator. One guy who bought RW quoted that, talked about how the lighting and shadows in RW were improved, and expressed the opinion that RW was "more realistic than the tree and water simulator RS was". Okay, so now it's a tree and water and lighting and shadows simulator, did we all forget it's supposed to be "RailWorks will provide the best looking and most realistic train and rail simulation platform for rail enthusiasts and modellers." First part is what everyone seems to be interested in, concur it's the best looking, but "most realistic train and rail simulation", uh no, RS don't even come close and it don't appear to me RW has met that claim either. Again, hard to tell from the posts, does it have trains in it?

well if its anything like RS was there are many many possibilities for sounds. sound was one thing i found could be easily tied into almost anything the train is doing. they could have done it i suppose, but for the modders, the possibilities and potential is right there, just waiting to be coded.

How does RW now compare to MSTS on launch?

LOL. i hated MSTS on launch for pretty much the same reasons. BUT, at least it was open coded, so I could just edit the SMS files, play around, change the WAV files. Oops! cant do that in RS quite so easy. Damn, I can't even find a way to stop that (truly realistic train sim type) bird twitter.

Is that still there in RW?

I learned from MSTS not to buy train sims on launch date. RS taught me that lesson again.

RW - I'm wise from experience now. And 'learning' - something that the developers don't appear to be doing.

Have you got anything for RS (or even RW) yet? :) Maybe along the lines of Railwaves, with wheel-on-track sounds too :D

Remember the old phrase "Don't judge a book by it's cover"?

Todays version would be "Don't judge a game by it's trailer".

The ACTUAL game is a MAJOR improvement over RS, and at 50% off to boot ($25 US).

Of course, the inevitable group of whiners who piss and moan about why do I have to pay again for major improvements, maybe it's missing this or that, maybe I'll wait, will whine even louder when they finally realize it IS worth buying, but now they have to pay FULL PRICE!

You have until the 17th to buy it for a song. DO IT!

Have you got it and tried what others have reported they are having problem with using RW ?

I would not recommend anything unless I am absolutely certain that it is worth recommending in case I get sued for giving bad or damaging advice ! ;)

I dought it will be at full price for a long time. Give it a few weeks before it takes a drop in the price just like RS did. Heck, 4 months after RS was released. People who were selling RS on ebay couldnt even sell it at 1 cent.

So long as the sales outlets are restricted to 2 outlets the price is under the control of Rail Simulation. The old model of wide retail distribution gave me a $10 bargain and little or nothing for RSDL. That mistake will not occur again.

So far AMAZON-UK and PLAY.com are already discounting it down to £ 29.99 and as far as I know the suggested by manufacturers retail price is no longer legally binding in the UK and resellers can sell products at whatever price, frequently below cost to attract other purchases during promotions.

Once they find that there is little interest at that price will no doubt discount it further, if like in the case of EA they are sitting on loads of unsold copies of RS.

When the train handling physics are equal,or even somewhat like MSTS,then I will consider RailWorks.

More or less true, but then you vastly restrict the availabilty of the product, and you may not sell a copy to the gal in Vernal Utah. Which is worse, 1,000,000 copies at 14.95 turtle shells, or 6,275 copies at 61.55 turtle shells?
