I did exactly as you said....tried all kinds of combinations of shifts to no avail.

Unfortunately, switching the cab to adjust the color of the smoke on the 2nd loco did not work

Consistently on Marias Pass the first steam engine produces dark smoke and the second produces light smoke....
adjustable any way ?
