I like the colour. Also C16 268 was in the colour. It is only painted like to get more people to ride "The Silverton" in the 1950's not to turn people away from the Rio Grande!

I like it, the yellow cab and tender pose an interesting contrast to the black boiler and underbody. If im not mistaken, the D&RGW's Shay's were painted like this as well.

BTW, Jonatan, i want that loco!

I'm going to through in a "no" vote on the paint scheme. It looks nice on the C-21, but not a K-36 IMHO.

D&RGW's Shay's??? Could you please enlighten me. I have never heard of or seen any pictures of any. Why would they need any?

Well there was the Utah Coal Belt or something, owend some 3 truckers, but never, NEVER did they live into the bumble bee days, also the shay's were Standard Gauge.
Also, there is some dispte to the boiler jacket color, the 268's new coat is a dark green, yet no one know bout the '73, some say green, some say black.

I shot this a few weeks ago. I was working and couldn't get better shots. I would say black. Compare the color to the black on the tender. Why on earth would they paint it green?

I guess the obscure point I was trying to make is that Rio Grande never did own a shay. All the rosters I've seen show no sign of a shay being purchased. By all means if you can find documentation that the "Rio Grande" did purchase one I would be interested in it.

The Rio Grande had a few shays off the Copper Belt line in which had 8% grades.

    A photo of one.

I never knew that 268 was in yellow again. It was in D&RG black when I saw it.
