Default ScaleRails now out for Public Beta

ScaleRails, as well as ScaleRoads, are available for beta testing at http://www.3dtrains.com/forums/

Can you please be more specific and give us a direct link to where they can be downloaded from.

It's a big site and I always find it not all that easy to locate certain items.

    Thanks, O t t o.

P.S.: For those who download the SCALERAIL BETA be aware that the Tsection.dat 00024 is required. Download it from our File Library if it is not included with the BETA.

But those who have downloaded Y-TRACKS from my Web Site have already got it and installing another version of the 00024 would wipe out the Y-Tracks entries in the one supplied by me !!!

Noticing over at 3D that there has been an amendment to their version of the Tsection.dat, 00024a, Y-Tracks users would be advised to create a MINI MSTS Route to specifically test SCALERAILS in using the 00024a ! The next version 00025 of the Tsection.dat should have a complete listing of all these additions and hopefully some XTracks updates as well ?! ;-)

That was quick, Scott, THANKS !!! :7

    Actually O t t o ... the SR installer gives you the new tsection.dat.
Its actually a build on top of Build 24(called 24A), as it has some sections and fixed errors that didn't make it into 24 in time.
Of course, you'll all want to backup your original tsection.dat in the event 24A does something wrong(it shouldn't but its still good to be careful...).

Yes, J.T., the Tsection.dat 00024a which comes with the SCALERAILS BETA does not have the complete up-to-date Y-Tracks listings in it I supplied with the Y-Tracks download, users who downloaded it since yesterday will need.

They could also switch Tsections.dat depending on what they are working on, a Y-Tracks or SCALERAIL test route ! ;-)

What fixes are you refering to, Otto?

FWIW, the version included with the public beta of ScaleRail contains the latest build-24a that was sent to me by Steven Masters. I see nothing in the train-sim.com file library to indicate that a later version is available.

    Hi Marc !

The Tsection.dat 00024 which was released recently and is available for download from the File Library contains only the initial assortment of Y-TRACKS, carried forward from the 00023, as well as most of the new SCALERAIL tracks pieces.

Many more Y-Track pieces have been added since the release of the Tsection.dat 00023, which Roman has added to it and is included with the latest updates to Y-TRACKS available from: www.otto-wipfel.co.uk/downloads/ytracks.zip !

The "Fixes" refer to Single- and Double-Slips which Roman has modified to include "Crossover Markers" in their center Crossovers, needed to announce their presence to Signalling.

The Tsection.dat which comes with the SCALERAILS BETA, version 00024a, has additional items in it, not included in the 00024, such as Concrete Ties Switches and a number of last minute fixes, the 3D Forum message says. It should not be applied by those already using yesterday's Y-Tracks Download and it's Tsection.dat 00023/Y unless they Back it Up first before trying the SCALERAILS 00024a !

This is my first impression of SCALERAILS Tracks and Switches, used in my new SCALERAIL Test Route. The wooden ties are no option as far as I am concerned and not likely seen on high-speed modern routes the likes of the SURFLINER Rolling Stock is running on !

Good looking Trackbed, Rails and Switches, but think that the Wing and Check Rails ends should be more angled, like shown in the next two pictures from the UK-FINESCALE and Roman's Y-TRACKS.

XTRACKS and Y-TRACKS still offer a great variety of Switches of all shapes, sizes and configurations such as Single and Double-Slips, 2-Way and 3-Way Y-Switches, Switches in Curves, etc, etc.

Will SCALERAILS eventually have such choices too ?

Looking forward to the SURFLINER and Rolling Stock to arrive soon, I hope ! ;-)

    Take Care, O t t o.

You already know about the Y-Tracks version you have containing Build-23 of the Standardized file. ;)

I'll probably modify them just a wee bit. However, keep in mind that I opted for a profile of the rail, and tweaking the frogs and such is bound to add more polys. Y-Tracks sits flat on the ballast, and it and UKFS use square rail. Nevertheless, the frogs are something I've wanted to get finished for a while, but I had not the time to do so. FWIW, the mapping on the switches has been giving me the biggest headache, but I think I have all issues solved and will update everything soon.

Yes - I plan on eventually creating all the above (as time allows), except I believe "true" 3-track Y's aren't possible - at least not working in the sim, as you can only have two path choices for any turnout. :)

    Hi
With all these issues shold I download/install?

    Known Issues:
    1) Several of the broader radii curves need to be recreated as they look rather "chunky"

    2) Some of the "Town" roadways have incorrect mapping coordinates

    3) Not all sections complete. It's recommended that you utilize RE's "Thumbnail Preview" to confirm whether a piece is available

    4) Other items exist as "issues", but are being worked on for the final (and are hardly worthy of mention here )
