Well, IF you would do a little research into MSTS files, you would find that the sounds are WAV files. And the names of the files are like horn.wav and whistle.wav and also x_horn.wav and x_whistle.wav. Wonder if the X_ signifies eXternal? Well now if you like the whistle on loco A and don't like the whistle on loco B, wonder what would happen if you copied the whistle.wav and x_whistyle.wav from the sound folder of loco A to the sound folder of loco B? Well you might like the whistle on Loco B now; BUT a prototype expert will tell you that "Loco B has the WRONG whistle for that locomotive."

Are you runing a simulation? Or are you playing a game?

Then you need to study the SMS (Sound Management) files for Loco A to see how it calls (plays) the whistle.wav and compare that to the SMS files for Loco B. Then edit loc B's SMS files. BTW make backups too.

    what if i rename them...........

To install the whistle sounds, unzip the file into a temporary directory, choose the whistle sound you want to use, rename the files and give them the same name of the whistle sounds you want to replace, and paste the whistle sounds into the "Sound" folder of the locomotive of your choice (overwriting when asked). As an alternative, you can also edit the locomotive's .eng file accordingly to call on a different sound file (not recommended for beginners).

Then you'll need to learn some basic sound editing. There are tutorials at train-sim.com as well as the steam4me site. Do some googling.
