Adding repaints instead of replacing defaults
Hi,
There have been many good additions to the rolling stock out there already....BUT many of them are repaints designed to write over files in the defaults. For instance..we have now three or four different repaints for the SafetyCab caboose. Instead of writing OVER an existing one (and still only having one SafetyCab selection) I want to be able to have one of each. In other words SEVERAL different cabooses in my library available for consist makeups not just a single Chessie, or L&N.
This also is being done with lots of boxcar or transport carriers...they're repaints meant to write over an existing file.
So then, how does one do this? Copy the entire contents of the default to a new directory under a different name and THEN, copy over the new repaint files? I could use some help with this.
Thanks to all.
Great Sim.

RE: Adding repaints instead of replacing defaults
You've got the right idea and many of the readme files tell you also. But basically what you do is under the directory Train Consist create another folder with the new car you want. What you do next depends on the zip file sent you. Many contain everything you need, especially for rolling stock, and you simply extract them to the newly created folder. For engines I suggest you download Nels NH GP38 and read the readme. It contains a lot of great information and how I got my start in repainting.
