Default What are these pesky red poles?

Obviously they are bad news or else why would they be red. All my other poles are blue (which seems non-confrontational enough) but red poles just make me see, well, red!

I remember seeing something posted here before about these red poles but I'm damned if I can find it now. Something about 10m between switches or something.

    Can anyone help out?

Its just a switch indicator. No problem as long as you have a rail piece at each end of the three sections in a switch.

You're fine as long as you do not try to put two red poles in the same location, i.e. two switches back-to-back.
The 10m being the shortest available straight (unless you use XTracks ;-)) it is appropriate putting one of those in between such switches.
Putting switches after each other is no problem as the red poles will not touch.
Another thing regarding switches and the red pole, it must not appear where otherwise a blue pole would be.
That is never leave the read poled end of a switch as the end of tracks or you could have major problems.

Couldn't you use a single piece of dynamic track here? That'd only be something like two meters, would it not?

Dynamic track has some inherent problems of its own. Use with extreme caution. :)

Thank you for posting this picture. I have posted this before but have gotten no answer: My editor shows no red poles, nor blue poles or ANY poles, neither the connecting wires. Although I have little problem connecting track, I feel I am missing something, Do I have a different version? Overhead wires are not shown either, although the route is marked and checked as electrified. The Ref file shows the routes to be electrified. It is a mystery. Martin

Sounds like you have dissabled the viewing of track database lines.
It's an option in one of the main window menus.
