Thread: Links Database started!

    Default Links Database started!

I've finally managed to get the links database going. The problem turned out to be a dodgy database upload to the server.

If you have any railroad-related links in your bookmarks/favorites, can I ask you to spend a few minutes adding them to the database? This is intended to be a community project so that somebody looking for a particular railroad's track charts can have a look on the database for it - and find it!

    The address is:
    http://www.simsig.co.uk/portal/index.asp
and click on the Links link.

I'll try to make it a bit more user friendly soon. There is a lot of rubbish that I don't really need, I'll be stripping that out soon. For now, please stick to the Links database. Any suggestions for new categories and subcategories would be gratefully received, either on here or at my home address geoff.mayo@freeuk.com . The system doesn't support sub-sub-categories.

    Many thanks!

Excellent work Geoff! This will definitely become an excellent resource for all!

PS - I've already registered and added a link to a site with Wisconsin timetables on it :)

    Hurrah for Geoff!

Do I need to register before I can add a link?

I'll start organizing my stuff a bit more and get some additional links added to the list. I may have some thoughts on subcategories once I get stuff organized, but for now I think I can find a logical place for the links I have now.

Thanks again for the effort to get this going.

Yes, you have to register. But it's painless and quick. You don't even need a valid email address, not that I told you that.

Please let me know of any cats/subcats you want added. Apart from this weekend coming, I'll be on every evening so I can add the cats pretty quickly. I'm not sure how tolerant the thing is for re-organising the links, so it may be easier to get the right categories first.

    Cheers.

No problem. I registered and added a quick four sites. I also scored the first post in the Forums section! My claim to what passes for "fame" around these parts. :-)

How about a couple of new categories:
    Terrain Data and Tools
    Textures

I have a few more sites I could add under those two categories. They may fit OK under 3-D modeling, but the terrain has a lot more aspects to it, including DEMs, how to use them, where to get them, and the tools used to make it all work.

Good thinking. I'll try to add those in ASAP.

Thanks everyone, please keep adding! You never know, somebody might just add the link you're looking for!
