Default I've broken my route (again).

Got a strange new problem. I've been putting in a few night textures for some buildings in the route. I've been going back and forth between the sim and the editor, checking things, etc.

Suddenly, the RE won't open my route - I get the send/don't send message. The RE will open other routes.

The route will run in the sim, however, and will also open with the AE.

I haven't fooled with any files other than adding a few .ace files for adding night textures, and ensuring the .sd files have the correct alternate texture entry.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

Jeff start by taking out the night textures you added and go from there.Essentically back tracking to find the problem.

Had a similar problem myself the other day.

Was adding interactive switch stands. Placed the first switch stand, saved everything then opened activity editor and made a simple route past the switch. Started the route, drove past the switch in explore mode and everything worked fine.

Liked the look of the new addition so added the same switch stand to the other switches in the yard. Saved everything, ran the activity in explore mode and again everything was fine. Went to open the activity editor which caused the computer to lock up.

The cure was to go back into route editor and remove each new switch stand. Eventually found that removing one switch stand on a Y point was the problem and that after deleting this, the activity editor worked again.

So once more the golden rule of taking your time, making a back-up copy before even the smallest change and testing everything thoroughly before the next trivial change is the only way to go.

If the RE won't open the route then nothing can be edited in it.

Your only hope is that you got more than one recent working back-up of it you can go back to where it was before you started adding these night objects versions.

    Sad, but true.

I did have a back up done yesterday (I back up nearly every day), so I began putting in night textures for each building with a quick check to ensure things still work in between each change.

I have put all the changes back in, and everything works just fine. I have no idea what the problem might be. I must have inadvertantly moved or removed something along the way. I've been known to have fat fingers.

What is strange is that it works fine in the sim, but the RE won't open it. Usually it's the other way around.

Just another testimonial for backing up your stuff.

    Lightbulb Troubleshooting 101

First thing I ask these days - what does Route Riter's Check Route say?

    Option 2, if RR don't find anything;

    http://steam4me.railpage.org.au/trai...s/rt_fold.html

Do things like moving the track database out and see if the editor will open it, or move half of the \World files out, best way to narrow it down is to find out what parts it WILL load.

One SWAG here, if it loads in game and not in the editor, what's the difference? Game uses \Envfiles sun.env, rain.env, snow.env, etcetera, but the route editor uses a unique file named editor.env - if that one is missing, it will open in the game but not the editor.

I've had the exact same problem, made a building, put it in the route, the RE wouldn't open. The problem was simply a corrupted .ace file, I made it wrong, had the wrong box checked on TGATool. Replaced the ace file with a good copy, and it worked.

I guess that may have been my problem, although all I did to fix it was to use the same .ace files with my backup copy, and all seems well. Quien sabe...
