I nearly made the same mistake as Hank, but I'm so cheap, that I wouldn't complete any info until I could see that the client accepted the promo code (which took several tries). Something tells me that the site is purposely laid out to confuse and maximize the dollars sent to Steam.
They made a poor decision choosing steam, but I have no problems with steam so far.

At any rate, downloaded completed in approx. 10 mins. on my system - a fiber cable network. It would have been nice if Steam has told me that the next step was to get out of Steam, and install from the icon on my desktop. Instead I kept looking for an install feature in Steam. Anyway, finally got it done.

(hey, I said I was 'fairly' internet literate, didn't I? I tend to panic when these things aren't completely obvious.)
They are making arrangements. They canceled the original charge and then I went through the "revealed late" procedure and got the promo price. The month-end statement will tell me if it worked.

Thanks for posting this, Gary. Most helpful.

Note: The first time I went to the store after entering my promotion code RW still showed the full price, even after being added to my cart. Steam then prompted me for a restart (it had updated itself) and after that everything worked fine.

    Downloading now.

Same here. I used the arrows and went back to price page and new price shown. So, if $49 shown go forward and then backward in the process steps, it should reset. If I buy it will be on 17th after some results are in.

Unhappy I got the promo price, but

    Colleagues,

I was willing to bite the bullet, as I am still making a decision whether to stay
on MSTS or move on to something better supported.

Don't waste your money on Railworks if you already have RS. In my opinion it
should have been a free upgrade and in my case the darn thing does not work
anyway. In Addition, there is no information about where this install program
went, on your machine, so I have no way to back it up in case of a system
failure. I assume I could go back to Steam and get a new copy, given that my
account should show that I paid for it, but who knows for sure. My download
took about 10' and I did get the discounted price, but it was a cumbersome
route to get it, to be really southern gentlemanly polite about it.

I finally set up a route, the same one I experimented with in RS, but under a
different name. When I got into world editor, everything was fine until I hit
the "T" key to build some terrain. Then it locked up and when I used the
3-finger salute and task list to get out, there was an error about a bad function
call to the MS C++ Runtime libary. On exit, if I did not use the "T" key, I got
another error about a failure in accessing memory. I have sent both to the
support group, but this is, IMHO, very buggy software, even worse than the
    first release of MSTS-1.

Also, if you use MikeSimpson's utilities that just showed up today in the library,
you can create the developer folder okay, but then the subfolders are created
under the source directory anyway. I moved them to the correct location
in order to get the WE to display, at least the correct coordinates. Lets see
if anyone else has this problem or if Mike offers an update. I do plan to make
    a donation, once it works.

    Wow.
You did not get a free copy for having your hard work put into the game?
