Default Parade's article on Train Rides in America

Hello. I saw this week's Parade and right on the cover is an interesting shot of one of Amtrak's California Zephyr line train. The cover shot is the same as the first shot on the article from the link below.

You can read the article here:

And for their editor's pick they titled "Unforgettable Rail Lines":

I read the article in the paper; I really enjoyed it (except I wished it would have been longer ). I also kept the Parade from a few years ago about: "Can We Save America's Trains?".

Is it just me, or does the world of trains seem to be catching on more and more to the general public? Maybe it's just because our (Central Texas) commuter trains finally began service last week (and I have yet to see one in person ...).

I'm excited. I'm going to be riding the CZ from Provo to Denver and back in early May; can't wait!

What we need is another revitalization of the glamour of riding trains like in the old days. Nowadays people think too fast. That they got to get there now! That depletes the purpose of some of these long journeys. People have to start to learn how to "smell the roses" again. So to speak.

These long rides can really let you see and experience the beauty of America. Where in the air can you do that when you are zipping across the country at 35 thousand feet flying at 500 to 600 miles per hour? You can barely feel what it is to be on those canyons let alone see what it is like to be around them. They also need to make them more affordable. Of course with the impact of the airplane, who can compete with those?

I don't really speak from experience. The longest ride I ever took in a train was the San Diegan from Los Angeles to San Diego or in reverse. But from the looks of those that were mentioned, it is almost like being in those cruise ships, but on rails. Only that you get to see more scenery on land.

Maybe some day I'll try one that goes from coast to coast.

One thing that this mindset has done to Americans is eliminate the virtue of planning ahead. Failing to do so causes unnecessary stress that could easily be eliminated, not just in travel but in every aspect of life. Not only that, but there's a greater chance for accidents when one rushes him/herself at the last minute.
