Downloaded V128 5 hours ago but game does not work... everything loads ok until just after the sound module and then I keep getting an error " External Program reports an error" iirc can't run OR at the moment so going from memory here.
But it definitely does not tell me which external program.
I have XNA and all the .Nets up to and inc 3.5 SP1
Tried every route default and otherwise and multiple activites..same result...
Have not seen any other posts yet, so wondering if it is just me ?

Richard,
Please post a screen shot of the DOS loading screen when you get a chance. It would be helpful to diagnose your problem.

Will do but not for another 7 hours

Downloaded and installed. First test failed using an activity I had made for the previous version. Left that and went to the Ozark Northern.
That worked with no problems. Most impressed with the AI arriving as I drove my engine out of the shed. I did not follow the activity brief, but instead followed the AI along the line for a bit, then picked up some cars from a siding and took them back to where I started.
I really do like the adjustable cloud cover and the ability to switch weather conditions during an activity.
Beer is not a matter of life or death, it is much more serious than that.
Might help to have a step by step tutorial, installing XNA and NET seems to go round and round the mulberry bush.
That was the first screen I got, so downloading and attempting to install XNA I got this;
Which led to a web page that had 2010 on it;
This particular XNA is fussy, don't want any part of 2010, C++ 2008 is also no good, gotta get the regular C#2008 and install that.
Next;
Port Ogden & Northern V10, Anderson 0800 activity, apparently can't find a loose consist or it's missing some track. PO&N is weird tho, I got some aliased track sections in that route, and I don't think any other MSTS route aliases track sections from the route folder.
Okay, so eliminate possible variables, try default Marias Pass, default Autotrain setout;

That works.Watching that video again, I notice the trees are visible thru the second light cone, just not the first.
Almost forgot, recommended change to the readme;
doubleclick on the ORTS.EXE program
Name of the executable is OpenRails.exe, not ORTS.exe.
Did you know that OR has made some advancements of AI behavior as follows:
AI trains can pass if both paths have passing sections defined at the same place. Waiting points and reverse points should work, although the trains might not stop in the same location as MSTS.
• AI trains will stop near any switch that is not lined properly, throw the switch and then proceed. (This function will probably get improved and enhanced with community feedback)
• AI trains can uncouple and leave cars.
• At the moment uncoupling only works from the front of the train and coupling doesn’t work yet. To uncouple put a waiting point in the path with a waiting time greater than 40000 seconds.
• A value of 4NNSS where NN and SS are two digit numbers will cause the first NN cars to be uncoupled and the train will move again after waiting SS seconds.
• Priorities: AI trains should start as scheduled as long as there is no other AI train already on a conflict path.

Hi Sniper,
I will fix the FAQ to reflect your suggestions. You have created two excellent Open Rails videos! I love your choice of music, particularly the Shirelles' "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" included in your first Open Rails YouTube video. Your videos combine some of my best loves: Doo Wop and Open Rails! It is interesting to see how far Open Rails has come in such a short period of time comparing these videos. I look forward to more of your video compilations.
Sniper,
You had trouble with XNA because you were installing Game Studio instead of the redistributable package. The game studio and visual studio are only needed for software developers on the OR coding team.
Instead please install the XNA Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 3.1 from:
