    Question Help with personal activity

Hello. First, thank you for taking the time to read this.

I am having difficulty with an activity. I did not download it, I created it from scratch. The route is the Pacific Surfliner Route from Facing Point Media. I am using strictly content that came with the route, nothing else. (There is one custom consist I made but it uses only what came on the disk.) It starts in San Diego and the player drives to LA, starting at 6:04 A.M. There is a Coaster service that departs next to the player service. You follow it (on another track, racing it basically) and then pass it at Old Town. Approximately 50 seconds in, the game starts to skip. All controls work as they are supposed to for 7 seconds exactly. Then it freezes, and my computer crashes. Happens every time at the same spot. Is it possible to have TOO much AI traffic in a session, as there are probably two dozen services (6 of them are detectors) if not more that start when the session does. My graphics card is not very good, so I am also curious if the lighting (based on time of day) causes this. I have created activities on this route before, using default and downloaded content that worked fine. I am at a loss with how to proceed. I don't want to have to start over but if this is an unheard-of problem I guess I will.

Get rid of all the AI except the one that starts next to you. Does it now run?

Now add ONE oe TWO AI and run it again. Still OKAY?

Add two more AI and again run the activity. OKAY? . . . . .and so on until you hit the limit for your machine. You get the idea.

This is why I don't do activities. . . . running the same activity 10-20 times would cause my head to explode.

Oh, and be sure to shutdown useless programs running in the background, stuff like Adobe, QuickTime, desktop 'managers' and other useless junkware.
Thes programs can be configured not to run on startup (boot) untill you actually wat to use them!
You use [START]==>[RUN]==>type MSCONFIG to do that.

My msconfig panel. Most are unchecked. You'd be surprised at the boost in performance you get by taking charge of your system!

BTW, unchecking a startup program IN NO WAY prevents you from using the program. It's just that the program only runs when YOU want it to.

    Vince,

Thanks for the response. Sorry for the late one on my part. I deleted all AI traffic but the first Coaster. Same problem. I let the game go to see if it could power through but crashed like before. I will change the start time to see if that has an effect.

Also, does having an AI train start before the activity effect anything? None of mine do, just curious.

    Hi Chris,
The AI can be started before activity player start time.

To eliminate the consist, use a default passenger consist. Something you 'know' works.

Have you run the Route_Riter [CHECK ROUTE] test? And if it passes that test, on the RR TSUtils Tab, run the [ICHK] test.

Running these very important tests error free is a REQUIREMENT to being able to sucessfully complete a route build.

Be sure to remove static consists also (sometimes called 'loose' consists).
They have no place in a developing activity. Put them in last after you get the activity to run correctly.

If the activity runs with the default consist the problem may lie in the rolling stock you are using.
Test the rolling stock with Route_Riters Activities/Stock Tab.

Be sure to read the RR Help Manual before using.

    Enjoy!

Since you have eliminated AIs, do you have any piece of rolling stock that has a bad "bounding box" configuration. When game starts Hit Ctrl key plus the plus key on the right side of keyboard and this should show the bounding boxes assigned to the rolling stock. A bounding box that is too wide may strike a sign post and thus crash the game. Since it always happens ar the same location then this is a likely cause. I've had the same thing happen to me only it was when an AI was being passed that the crash would take place--all caused by a bad bounding box setting.
