Random Style of the Day: Monon Red
The Monon, officially the Chicago, Indianapolis and Louisville Railway, operated exclusively in the State of Indiana, using trackage rights with other railroads to serve Chicago and Louisville. They merged with the Louisville and Nashville in 1971, and following several more mergers in the 1980's, became part of today's CSX.

State of the Site - April 2023
Running a 22 year old website is a lot like buying a 70 year old home... There's always something to keep you occupied. Fortunately, a month after the move, almost all the boxes are out of the garage, we've figured out which rooms needed some paint, found places for most of the furniture, and very quickly gave up on the idea of a ceiling fan when we discovered cloth wrapped wiring behind the light switch. But then there's the roof.... In last month's update, I mentioned the site's... -

Chasing the Corn
Earlier this week, my wife asked if I could pick up my granddaughter from a friend's birthday sleepover she'd been at. She's been on Spring Break this week, and as they only live one town over, she's been spending a lot of time at our place while their parents are at work. On the way back to our house, I saw an approaching train on the tracks that parallel the highway between our two towns. This is a pretty rare thing at 11:00 am, given the commuter trains that run on weekdays. Being the train nerd tha...Last edited by eric; 08-01-2023, 00:20. -

TrainSim.Com Celebrates 22 Years Online
Today marks the 22nd anniversary of the opening of TrainSim.Com, and with the site undergoing some changes it seemed worth looking back and commemorating the event. Way back in 2001 I had already been running FlightSim.Com for five years and when Microsoft announced that there would soon be a Microsoft Train Simulator to go along with Microsoft Flight Simulator I just felt like I had to open a new site to support it. Some of the other flightsim sites just opened new sections in their... -

State of the Site - March 2023
When I woke up to read the forums here on January 16th, the first discussion thread I came across was regarding concern for another site -- UKTrainSim. A day later, a post on that site confirmed what everyone knew was inevitable -- the site would be closing in August 2023. As someone who's been in the Train Simulation community for over 20 years, that really hit home. We've lost other communities like Mophouse and the personal sites run by Otto Wipfel & Paul Fowler, and within the last yea... -

We've Moved.....
Trainsim.com is running on new servers as of Sunday evening.
This marks the final step in a long process of separating Flightsim and Trainsim's technical infrastructure, management and support resources.
Thanks for your patience and understanding thru some of the cutover activity the past two weeks.
While we weren't able to avoid a small outage during the migration, the planning and testing helped to reduce it to under two hours. -

by ericYep, the site was down for most of Tuesday, but it's back.
Sometime overnight Monday, the site's databases experienced an anomaly which forced a rebuild from backups. Fortunately, we had good backups from Monday around 8pm, and the file uploads weren't affected at all aside from missing in the catalog.
Right now, things appear stable. There may have been a few posts or private messages lost, but a few were able to be recovered and restored. All of the files uploaded yesterday...-

by ericI had to do a double-take when I looked at the date today... Yes, September is just around the corner. With that, my youngest started what's hopefully his last semester at the University of North Texas this week, and my granddaughter went back last week to start her last year in elementary school. Time flies way too fast in that regard. Heading back to school also means one of my favorite times of year -- NFL football is back. While the pre-season is not supposed to be an indicator of anythin...

by ericChecking Trainsim has been part of my daily routine for the better part of the last 20 years.
It's like checking the news -- I turn on the PC or open a browser on my phone, and it's there.
And I'm glad it is -- there are folks here I've known to varying degrees dating back 20 years, and this hobby is one of the few distractions I get from everyday life, and for that I'm grateful.
Some of you may not realize how close this site came to being like UKTrainsim...-

by ericHappy Independence Day!
It's hard to believe we're already halfway thru the year, but that's where we are.
I do apologize for writing this a bit late -- hopefully by now, everyone who celebrates the day has had a chance grab a burger or brat at a cookout, and is getting ready to sit back and watch for some fireworks either tonight or in the coming days.
Listening from my home office, the celebrating started in our neighborhood last night and hasn't stopped....-

by ericThe folks at TrainSimulations.Net have another great rolling stock set for us....
Mechanical refrigerator cars are an essential piece of railroading, bringing fresh fruit and produce from the growing fields in California and Florida, as well as meat from the Great Plains and fish from the coasts to consumers nationwide.
This set offers the standard Pacific Car and Foundry 57' car that was in widespread use from the 1960's to the 1990's. A few still remain in service today...-

by ericI'm happy to announce all four packs produced for the 3DTrainStuff.com West Colton route by DieselsWest are now available for purchase in our storefront.
These packs are essential for anyone who owns the West Colton route, and I have to say, look pretty darn good on the Shasta as well.
Also available from DieselsWest is their Burlington Northern U30C setalso available. If you're a fan of late Second Generation GE power, you'll want to check this set out.
