Tips for using our updated Search Engine:

• General searches can be for both words, either/or, or for files containing the first and not containing the second
• Words or phrases can be added in either box and are automatically wildcarded
• When searching for a reporting mark like "UP" or "BN", you may get better results by adding a leading or trailing space and entering " UP " or " BN "
• You may search for two exact phrase e.g. "New York" and "New Jersey" in the two keyword boxes
• Results are limited to 1000 records. If you get 1000 records, try using additional words
• You can download a copy of the file list to search offline

• Each file in the library has a unique File ID number that can be used to search for a specific file. You can access this on the Advanced Search options page.
• UKTrainsim Files have their original file ID number in our catalog, so ReadMe and Descriptions containing the file ID are still valid here.
• UKTrainsim Files also have the file ID as part of their name, so you can also search by that attribute in the Filename Search.
• Two special searches are available to locate WAG/ENG files within saved archives as well as consists.
• Locomotive Class searches are available for some types. Steam classes are identified using Whyte notation (wheels per axle vs axles). Diesels and electrics will be classed using AAR notation (a simplified form of the UIC notation used in Europe)
  • A Challenger would be noted as a 4-6-6-4
  • A Northern would be a 4-8-4
  • Four axle EMD F-units would be a B-B
  • Six axle EMD E-unit would be listed as an A1A-A1A
  • Six axle EMD SD and F-units would be shown as a C-C
