"Don't like the PBR textures and track. TurfFX isn't very good in application as there seems to be no control."

I suspect that our different views might be because of our different preferences for routes and layouts. I know you prefer the more expansive routes; I prefer tabletop layouts. For the latter I think that the new track, textures and grasses add considerably to the overall effect. For example:

Some of my layouts were included in T:ANE Deluxe and in TMR17 and have subsequently been released as DLC. When I saw how dated they looked in TRS19 I just had to bring them up to the latest standards. This is the "Shortz & Kerl Traction Railroad":

Why do "Model Railroads" in Trainz have visible brick walls?

Guess there is also a different view of "model railroading".

A backdrop was essential to convey reality.

When I did "solid" trains I was trying to duplicate the real world in a small space.

That is why I moved to virtual the ability to duplicate reality.

I'd actually like to use backdrops in the model layouts but all the ones I've tired cast shadows. Do you know of any that don't?

This is the latest, "The Hoofhearted & Smelz RRCo", another upgrade of a T:ANE layout.

Phil, many years ago, when I was creating the Blue Mts line in Trainz (never published), I used a backdrop which gave the impression of distant tree lines. It was very similar in style to the one I used in the BVE "Heavy Coal" route.

There was no shadow cast from it......the backdrop was like a sheet of wallpaper, if you get the idea.

I have no idea who created it or even if it is still available.

There was a load of freely available backdrops on the Trainz Italia website from a few years back, and I'm sure there were some developed by the Polish community as well, unsure which game versions they were made in though, and if they are still available currently, I can't remember them having any shadows at all, I utilised them far away from the track, so, you wouldn't really see any shadow as such, I wouldn't have thought.

            Cheerz. Steve.
