Currently Trainz22 is on discount until 11 August. It's low enough I might take a stab at it and if it sucks as bad as I think it does I'll refund it. Even the subscription versions are discounted, but I'm not interested in paying monthly. I suppose Auran will be dragging out a new version soon...Trainz 24?

I'm quite surprised they haven't announced the next version yet, we went from 19 to 22 so 25 must be due soon. Will be the same old Trainz though, no changes or improvements to make it good for anything other than the odd model railway style route. With the two tier subscription/non-subscription favouring those who pay monthly I'll be surprised if any of the new features like Surveyor 2.0 or really high end terrain mesh make it into the buy outright version.Vern.

I haven't been on the Auran forums for ages (not since dissing TANE and upsetting the paladins) so I've no idea what the speculation is, Vern. I imagine you're quite correct. If their weird pricing structure (game subscriptions) actually made them a better profit then I suppose they'll double down. If they do release a Trainz25 I hope it's completely fresh, with no ties to the mess their download service catalog is now (or was between 2012 and TANE), or at least stricter control over submissions. Then I might reconsider, otherwise I'll probably get into MSFS24 instead.Avidly simming on the rails:

You are right about the DLS! No maintenance or checks on items, most of the UK EMU’s for example still alias a sound file that was deemed illegal so show up faulty. There’s a range of LUL (London Underground) assets which are still listed but when you try and download comes up with a message the items have been withdrawn due to a breach of conditions. Then you get the Swedish DMU cars that can be downloaded but all the dependencies are on a third party site that might or might not cease to exist at some point.
For route building, I really want to see Diesel Railcar Sim come out with a better editor that supports map and terrain import. Otherwise on the laptop these days I just amuse myself playing the old SIAM traffic control games or the more recent SimSig, occasionally firing up Transport Fever or Cities Skylines.Vern.

I only run the Australian routes in TS22 Plus, which with my gold membership. I get access to all the brilliant Hotbox payware loco's in the store.
Dabbled with Cornish Railways route earlier this week. The route is great but all the freeware loco's and rolling stock used in the sessions, are pretty dire. At least with the N3V membership you get access to all the shop payware. Unlike the jokers at DTG, who decide what you can or cannot use with their subscription model.
Plus for me £12 a month is peanuts even on my low income. I don't drink or smoke and very rarely go out and even then only to visit family. So i see it as a worthwhile monthly expenditure. Pay yearly and it is even cheaper, at around £9 per month.
Lost interest in DRS with it's none UK track profile and now the emphasis towards game play features. I don't need 100 points for driving a modernisation dmu, something i was capable of doing in the real world.
