"I've been working on the railroad"
"All the live long-, since about January of this year after a couple failed attempts from last year."
I've been working on building the Indiana Hi-Rail in TSC, specifically the section from Browns, Illinois to Evansville, Indiana. This line was originally owned and operated by the Illinois Central, and was cast off by them some time in the late 70s or early 80s. The Hi-Rail took ownership of the line, struggled to make ends meet, and finally folded in 1997. The Hi-Rail is remembered mostly for it's large fleet of ALCOs and somewhat rare EMD power.
So far, I've modeled the line from Browns, IL to Poseyville, Indiana, as well as the branchline from Stewartsville to New Harmony, Indiana. My intention is to eventually make it down to Evansville and possibly model a small portion of CSX's former NC&StL/L&N trackage down there. My recreation of this line isn't 100% spot on accurate, and it's not meant to be, but is more just representative on the premise of "close enough is good enough". I don't plan on releasing this anywhere. It's more just for my own entertainment and to give me a project to work on during my days off from work; it keeps my mind active. I mainly run whatever I want on this route with no real rhyme or reason, though I tend to prefer 4-axle units as they look the most comfortable and the most at home on this route.
Browns, IL, the Northern most end of the route and the most recent addition to the route. The Hi-Rail interchanged with Norfolk Southern's ex-Southern Railway mainline here, which you can just barely make out in the background:
