    Rail Simulator to Railworks?

I am looking at finally upgrading to Railworks from the older, Rail Simulator. I would like to know your opinion on the game if you have upgraded to it from Rail Simulator.

Other than the new scenery(I think) and the 50.00 price tag, what will be the main payoff of getting this new version? Is the AI etc still a mess like it is in RS? Will it be more user-friendly? Will the graphics and physics display better?

    Thanks,

    Bad time to ask, we just had a major patch - typical patch, fix one thing break two others. My experience;

Reasons in favor of buying RW, if you're a Marc Nelson fan the F7 alone is worth it. More default trainsets and more default routes, you could easily spend 3 times as much for the same stuff if it was available as addon content for railsim. RW also has coupler slack that's missing from RS.

As for the patch we're still trying to figure out what it fixed and what it broke, but going on past performance the things that got broken by the patch usually get fixed fairly quickly. For my money the AI traffic still qualifies for mental disability benefits.

Because it means having to tear apart some of the RW source code, modify it and then recompile it again.

Doing that, if they have programmers who can do it, could cause existing Standard scenario AI services to malfunction.

Not a task I would want having to undertake, minor recent RW-X mods having caused enough problems as it is.

              Thank you for the responses

I am still between a rock and a hard place on this though. If I do end up buying Railworks it will probably be just so I can get the new packs, as Steam they told me that I couldn't check out Railworks packs without installing Railworks... If that makes any sense. I guess they need you to buy the base game through them before buying their addons. Any way around this??

              Thanks!

Well you have to look at the big picture also Rail simulator is dead and no more updates for that game.

I realize that, and that, partly, is what's leaning me towards RailWorks. However, I can't stop thinking about all of the problems, which I will probably encounter, by installing this new version, which doesn't even seem to be much of an improvement from Rail Simulator. I suppose I will just buy Railworks and forget about most of that. And hope it will be worth it.

                  Thanks

Hopefully the Railworks team will read this thread and see whats going on. i wish they had a fourm on the website to talk about problems and so on. I only hope they inprove this game and stop making problems.

I doubt if there is a way around it, the new addon packs were made specifically for Railworks. I made two versions of the Port Ogden & Chicago Metro route that could be installed into either railsim or railworks, the asset pack and most of my repaints are compatible with either game - but the latest version of the route is for railworks ONLY, because I'm now using content which is default to railworks but doesn't exist in railsim. Same deal with much of the STEAM packs, many rely on stuff that railsim simply does not have.

                        Broken AI?

There is a train of thought by some that AI failure is related to poor signal placement.

                        Any thoughts on this?

I've had AI failure on default routes so either they messed up the signals or something else is causing the failure.
