North Jersey Coast Line merged with New York - New Haven Line

Danny Leach about to release it in the Workshop made me have a look at what is involved.

The creators of the North Jersey route intelligently having used the same Start Tile co-ordinates the New York - New Haven route also uses, Danny took the bait and merged them, no doubt joining them in the Hudson tunnel, the easiest location where to do it in my opinion.

I am glad he has done it, being a far better route creating artist than I shall ever be, considering the density of scenery in both these routes !

Now that should cause a sales avalanche of both these routes, I already have !

It would be a great idea if DTG were to release a DLC of it to save fans having to buy them individually and open the doors to masses of specific Workshop scenarios for it to be created, to keep all busy until the arrival of TS-UE4 !

Boy, am I going to have some serious FUN !

What about Merging the Northeast Corridor Route from Philadelphia to New York City as well? Could that also be feasible?

        Hi Tom !

Having merged a few Railworks routes myself, the last and worst having been the Munich to Augsburg, Garmisch and Rosenheim merger, Danny made a much better job of, I am now using myself !

The state of my health being what it is it is not advisable to get involved in such a major and stressful task and in any case can not match Danny's professional expertise !

I can release it from my website, paid for until next April, which at the moment has 1.6GB free storage space, if he can give me a download link of his merged route without its assets folders from any free web site like Mediafire and after checking it on my WIN-7 Pro computer can WINRAR it and upload it to my web site:
http://www.otto-wipfel.co.uk/ to be downloaded and installed to run out of the box, without having to bother with all the hassle downloading whatever from the Steam Workshop.

Anything that needs fixing after it has been installed and is being found by its users can be done easily and re-uploaded to my web site !

Its stats record what is being downloaded I can let him have to see how popular it is !

I would normally be able to upload it as it is below 200MB however for some reason steam is limiting it to below 70MB, as for the merging I merged it on the other tunnel (the other side of Penn Station . As for other websites, I can only put the routes on steam workshop unfortunately. (workshop can be seen a lot more people than those that see trainsim.com or uktrainsim or etc )

I hope I'm wrong but, IIRC, Otto has stated in the past that the Start Tile Coordinates are different for the older NEC Phila.-N.Y. Route. If that's correct and it's the reason it may not be possible, it's a doggone shame. The North Jersey Coast Line is already tantalizingly represented in the old NEC route, with NJCL Tracks 1 and 2 nicely depicted as they merge into the NEC at Rahway.

Yes, the old NEC assets co-ordinates locations are different to the NJ-North and NY-New Haven routes which share them.

Unless somebody can create a program that can re-locate all the old NEC's co-ordinates so that the route can be merged with a merger of the newer New York routes it can not be done !

                Hi Danny !

Will DTG allow you to upload it to forinstance Railworks America. Not doing so will not create more sales for either of these routes having been merged, nor stop me merging them and release them from my web site !

I am warming up to doing it, if you can not release it, but move the merging point closer to the NJ Penn station where its Eastern tunnels start, to make is easier to retain the Grand Central station area of the NY-NH route !

O.K., not having heard any more on the subject of this merged route being available any time soon have bitten the bullet and have started merging the New York - New Haven route with the North Jersey Coast line.

It was easier than I thought and here are their tracks having been merged after having trimmed some of both in the East of the NY Penn station tunnels.

Now comes the more difficult part, joining their trimmed tunnel ends with their tracks without lofted overhead wires, I can not do and they will be missing, but doubt whether anybody will notice that inside short stretches of tunnels.

Not going to bother doing much with landscaping above them, nobody can see driving trains inside the runnels !

The Tile Boundaries are only missing in the Editors #9-Maps and wonder whether their grids represent them ?

I need a volunteer who has both these routes and would like to test my merger before I release it from my web site. Please PM me and give me your e-mail address to get a link to download it from my web site.

Linking done and here is Part-1 of my progress connecting both the West and East tunnels, my WIN-7 Pro computer battling with the TS-2016 editors, which are not coded to cope with such a task !

A pathed by me Freeroam loco is travelling from the New Jersey side of the Hudson river, through Penn Station and North-East towards New Haven !

                      https://youtu.be/N7rMqGk43Gs

Again, some overhead wires are not showing when action is being recorded at accelerated speed !

The darker tunnel is part of the New York to New Haven route.

The Paint Tool Level function has a problem adjusting the terrain using a certain height in meters, getting "Dumped" frequently and all of TS-2016 is creaking, forcing me to use all sorts of work-arounds to beat its inadequate coding !

However, I am winning the battle !

All tunnels having been linked, I have tested driving in them and the route is now almost ready to be released from my web site to those who would like to run it and have both these merged routes or would now like to purchase them.

Going out to have dinner now and then shall create my usual Freeroam scenario, running a North Jersey consist pathed by me to drive from New Haven to Bayhead, take the loop there and return to Hoboken !

Testing a route, I am using Swen's Freeware ICE-3 Twin unit, I can drive in both directions from its cabs at both ends and can give its LUA Krellnut's Cruise Control. Once set at a save speed for all curves and switches, can run it at 5 times accelerated speed, concentrating on what needs to be fixed !

Spotting something I can switch into the World Editor, fix it and carry on testing !

                        >None< electrified routes are given >ThirdRail< electrification in their Tracks.bin files, so that all locos and MUs can be driven in them !

All supplied with both routes scenarios should work, with the exception of New York - New Haven ones which termintate at the NY Penn station, their paths having been broken by the merger !

I am pleased with myself, having done all that in just a few days !

                            Old Age again !

Forgot to mention it in its README, required when running the supplied by me Route Explore Freeroam scenario !

Make sure that this switch is set to STRAIGHT after the South bound player has passed it, causing it to Divert, before going North to Bayonne after leaving the Bay Yard area, driving on the right-hand track !

P.S.: Having finished running my scenario today noticed some severe terrain on tracks glitches in the Bayonne station yard, which do not exist in the original. Have fixed it and re-uploaded it !

This is something which keeps also happening when Bill Putnam has made changes to his W.I.P. route and did also with Thomas Bontempo's routes!

A flaw created when the TS-2016 code slightly re-calculates some location co-ordinates ? I then have to spend many hours checking huge routes like that and fix it, not wanting to release anything which is not as perfect as I can make it !
