I have found a way to have AI trains in Free Roam

Hi everyone I would like to inform you of this game changing find that I found which will enhance your railroading experience using train simulator. I originally posted this on the steam discussion board and thought that you guys and girls would like to know. you will find me on steam as theskipper98.

First of all you run a route in quick drive, then go to the build editor and clone the quick drive route which will read copy of quick drive scenario. Then open the copy of quick drive scenario in the scenario editor in rw tools and pick what service that you want to drive in the opposite direction and save the quick drive scenario as a Free roam scenario and the result is you now have a random quick drive. You can do this every time that you run a quick drive route by cloning and creating a Freeroam scenario in rw tools. Also when you come of route you can pick up freight wagons and shunt and drive anywhere and jump to different services.

I really hope that it helps all you railway enthusiasts.

        Hi Otto,
I was not aware of your way of running AI trains in a free roam scenario, but you must admit by using my method all the AI trains are already produced for you with loose consists in the yards too. Also Train Simulator becomes like an open world sim as once your AI train has run its path you can shunt, turn around and work in the opposite direction with no pathing problems. I was just trying to help the railworks community and was not trying to discredit your work my friend.
I have posted this method of working on the steam discussion board and on uktrainsim.

Your name is in your Profile and I like to use it when talking to some members !

Being a moderator I could never do, not having the temperament to put up with what some post !

I am a KISS = Keep It Simple, Stupid programmer !

Most users of Railworks are lacking the experience of applying what you suggest, having to use RW-Tools and other methods not mentioned in manuals. DTG are doing all they can to stop them doing that !

A Freeroam Scenario can be created for any route, even it it has no Scenarios at all, using the TS-2016 BUILD function !

Being Freeroam it can then be configured to do what the user wants it to do and if required can be edited again to change whatever.

The most important thing before doing this is to make sure that all the route's folders have been made to allow READ-WRITE so that whatever has been changed / edited can be saved back to its files which have been worked on.

RW_Tools forinstance can not even see them otherwise and says so at the top of its windows !

Hi Otto, Thank you for your reply. I wanted to put the information out there as I considered it to be an easy process for most users so that simmers can have even more enjoyable ways of enjoying this excellent sim. You mention that you are a programmer, do you programme for DTG by any chance. I will try your free roam idea but the only drawback is that I have to place all my AI trains, where with my version they are already placed with random services.
Thanks for your input to the railworks community and long may it continue

              Hi Jeffrey !

I do not work for anybody anymore, being 87 now can do without getting stressed by clients, having had 2 heart attacks !

What you are suggesting has its merits, but think that my Freeroam Scenarios can do more than what other scenarios can do, catering for individuals preferences they can control.

Whatever, some of us are having a lot of fun running TS-2016, I am happy with !

The DTG partner Aerosoft have just released their Berlin-Leipzig route, DTG has announced in their Facebook, I had an earlier version of and getting it again today it seems to show much of what I have done to it in this latest version and it ranks among the best TS-2016 routes to date !

Hi Otto, I am sorry to hear that you have had two heart attacks and hope that your health improves. I am glad that you like the new Berlin to Leipzig route and that you may have years of fun with it. I tried your way of producing a free roam scenario, but the only drawback I find is you have to manually place all the trains and consists on the route. if you decide to try my version don't forget to open the copy of quick drive route in RW tools editor andyou may have to add drivers to trains and change the trigger distance for the Ai as I do for the all the trains to move.
                Best Wishes

If anyone is having trouble with trains not moving then you either have to add a driver to that train or increase the ai trigger distance. I use miles converted to meters. It depends on the route but i have the ai trigger distance set to 50 miles. This really works and will enhance your enjoyment of this excellent sim. And don't forget you can jump from train to train.

If you come up to a train that wont move you can either shunt that train into the nearest siding as if assisting a failed train or save the scenario and go into the train simulator scenario editor and add a driver and make a path to a portal. This is an amazing sim and i really have fun using the scenario editor, changing destinations or assisting trains. There is no limit in want you want to do as all the points are manual and unlocked and you just change the path of your train as if you were the signalman via the map view. You can even mess around with class of the train for random results. And just add a driver on any loco that you see in a yard and you can drive that too, as the train that you were driving will continue to its destination. This sim is excellent and you no longer receive the end of scenario because it has become an open world sim. As long as you set the points correctly the sim will not end for continous fun.

Sorry, Jeffrey, but I can not follow what you have said you are doing to convert a Quick Drive scenario into a Freeroam one, retaining its Player train and all the random AI's it has been programmed to run by the DTG coders !

A cloned copy of a Quick Drive scenario remains a Quick Drive one !!!

B.t.w., I had a look into the Railworks Steampowered forum and you do not exist !

Also check my Jpeg showing Steampowered telling me that theskipper98 in an invalid user !

Had you bothered to try editing a saved cloned QD you would know that the message referred to is a warning. You can ignore it and then continue to the editor page and rename it, change it to a Free Roam and do pretty much anything else you want.
                          You are wrong

That shows the forum - not the discussion board. "theskipper98" never mentioned the forum so your comment is invalid and meaningless.

Hi Colinjgreen, Thank you for your support regarding my post. It is rail enthusiasts like you that I tried to help on the forums, so that they can be aware of the hidden secrets that make train simulator an open ended sim. However I was taken aback by the hostility shown by some members of the forums that I posted my ideas with and this has left me angry and frustrated in such away that I no longer want to share my secret with some members of the train sim community. I have deleted my posts in the Steam forum as unaware to me I don't exist on steam and that the posts I made must be some sort of figment of my imagination.

However my friend I am willing to share with you any information to running an open world sim using train simulator, so that you can benefit from its enjoyment. Please PM me on this forum and I will give you some help.

I have made my pal Mike Simpson aware of it, but him being busy with other computing matters at the moment will look into what you have said you can do using his RW_Tools.

Not finding you in the Steam forums was caused by me not knowing that they would not search its Forums, including sub-sections folders, there being 2 of your posts on that subject in a "Discussion" folder. I thought that this is what "Forums" are for without having one !

Created more cloned copies with both RW_Tools and TS-2016 and RW_Tools did not let me convert them to Freeroam scenarios which still had all the random AIs and Loose Consists used by them !

Using my Pathed Freeroam scenarios there are no restrictions on what Players and AIs of my choice I can run, placing Loose Consists where I like them to be and make changes anytime to rolling stock used when I get tired of what there is !
