How does one merge routes in TS2016

I have been curious about this for a while, but I don't seem to actually know the process. I want to know, how does one actually go about merging routes in TS2016. What is the process, and what software (if any) is needed to pursue the process.

It has been mentioned before that certain routes without the same start tile coordinates cannot be merged, but I want to do some experimenting with that. So if anyone can point me in the direction of how to merge routes, I would appreciate it.

There are not many who can do it, being rather complicated to explain to those with little knowledge of how Railworks functions !

I have posted much on the subject of how I do it and an Advanced Search for merge and OTTODAD will find it !

I have successfully merged a few routes which do not have the same start Tile Compass Coordinates and one of them, the
rw-cwc-routes-merger.rar is on my web site with another one, the North Jersey - New Haven merged routes which have the same Start Tile co-ords.

You will find more by doing a GOOGLE for TS-2016 merging routes.

Most of all remember the golden rule to never change anything in Computing until AFTER you have taken copies of what you are about to work on and have saved it to a safe place on your computers disks, updating this copy whenever all is well with your WIP !

If you haven't any grey hairs yet, you will have plenty by the time you have finished.

I hate to sound incredibly stupid, but what exactly am i looking for? so far my search has come up with you only stating you will merge route x with route y and then saying you did or did not successfully do it.

Its nice if you were able to merge two routes, but this doesn't help me find out what am I supposed to do. Is there a merge button? Do I need RWTools?

I don't want to sound new either, but I would like to know what I'm missing.

Otto stated: "...rather complicated to explain to those with little knowledge of how Railworks functions !"

The complication comes from the tile coordinates themselves - each is tied to the start tile of one route, and might not be the same for the route you wish to merge. If they're the same, and after determining which route takes precedence near the start tile location, then it's a matter of copying and pasting the tiles together (MixMap, Terrain, Scenery, etc.), and then blending the difference between the two.

If the start tiles aren't the same, then you'll have a heck of a time keeping things straight. It can be done in this case, but it's not worth the effort and aggravation.

Either way, and as Otto indicated, it's no easy task.
        Cheers!

This and below shows you how to do searches:

          https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=TS-2016+merging+routes.&rlz=1C1AVNG_enGB644GB645&oq=T S-2016+merging+routes.&aqs=chrome..69i57.2443j0j8&so urceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

First learn all about what it takes to merge routes before you post again !

And that is what I was afraid of.

Thanks Otto for your help, but it looks like merging is out of my league. I barely understand how the basics of RW works, let alone how to do anything other than driving trains. I can't even get the hang of the scenario editor nor the route editor. And I did try the route editor in RW.

I was going to attempt to merge your New haven to Bay head route with the Northeast corridor from NY to philly. After reading several threads and posts, and trying to read some of the internal files of RW, I have decided to abandon the attempt. Thanks anyway, but I'm going to just use RW for driving trains when i need a break from MSTS.

Back to building my NJT route in MSTS. Thank you for the help anyway. I'm sorry I wasted your time.

No problem ! Trying to learn something new should never be a waste of time !

Here is my first effort of hacking a MSTS route in 2002, adding loops and new tracks to Teemu Saukkonen's excellent New York & Jersey City route, having been updated by me since to use DB-Tracks !
