TSW3 General Woffle & Guffaws Thread

Thought I would start a separate thread for DTG's latest, (not so) greatest version of their Train Sim World franchise.

All sorts of discussion going on at the official forum at the moment with the "yays" just about balanced by the "nays".

One thing for certain is this is an expensive upgrade whichever way you cut it. There's no bundle for users who own both of the UK routes featured - Spirit Of Steam and SEHS, the latter extended and enhanced. If you want the two new routes (Cajon Pass and Kassell to Wurzburg) then you need to buy the Standard Edition at £40/US$50. Otherwise you can choose a starter pack either/or Cajon/Wurzburg for £30/US$40 but not the other.

Hot off the press and just admitted by DTG, their solution to the unreliable save game has been to "temporarily" remove it altogether. With runs on some routes already in excess of an hour and the 85 mile Cajon route likely to be 2 or 3 hours that is unacceptable and immediately kills any last inkling I may have had to just buy anyway.

In addition it's unclear what improvements have been made to sound, in terms of adding reverb and bridge effects. There are some graphics improvements but not clear to what extent these will improve content ported over from TSW2, i.e. everything will still be coated with horrible tar like black shadow.

So at this stage very disappointing both in terms of the route choice for the UK (made over and slightly extended SEHS), pricing and all the other issues. Certainly not worth the asking price and until we can save a run in progress not worth any price.

Insteady of the rap tune they could've used "Money" by Pink Floyd. That's for the coin they'll make for peddling this hot garbage.

I'm all for new versions, but what has this improved? Weather and lighting. As pointed out they take away the save option which makes this even more useless than it already was.

Always hoping they're going to surprise me one day. Nothing surprising here.

You couldn't make it up, complete joke and shambles.

Non starter here Vern and yes i have said the same many times. But this time i am 110% certain.

3DTS put some 3D foliage in R8 and it is straight back on the pc here.

No, comprehensive. Grammar schools had gone the way of the dodo by the time I went, in 1974. Technically it was middle and upper schools at that point.

Back OT I see the usual suspects are out at DTG trying to defend the save game mess and the pricing, though to be fair there’s a bit more dissent than usual. I certainly don’t see how you could do a run on Cajon without saving or at least having a checkpoint, unless of course it’s the longer routes which have finally tipped the save game over the edge.

Why would you be proud (or otherwise) of an education about which you had very little - or probably even zero - say in where you went?

It puzzles me when adults say things like that when the outcomes were made by a combination of factors, including the decisions of the parents.
As kids, we have stuff-all say in where we go to primary school, with maybe a bit of input as we enter secondary education....if the situation allows for it.

I went to a boarding school in Sydney from the age of 10 right through to the completion of high-school, when I had just turned 18.
I had zero say in where I went and couldn't give a rat's about my parent's decision then or now. I was a child and they were my parents and they decided on the education path that they wanted for me.
I am neither proud nor ashamed.

Got ya Vern, still 11 plus in my day, which i didn't pass. Not missing the forum here Vern, i only go there for a wind up and a laugh. Different for me here on my own, i could do Cajon in one sitting, no problem. I have on more than one occasion, driven the Preston - Glasgow - Edinburgh (one of the destinations obviously) merged WCML, in one go.

Could be the longer routes, more data to save. TSW2 is not the most stable of games.

Bruce, just some harmless banter buddy. I also had a small amount of control in my educational destiny. I didn't want to go to grammar school, so i did not try my hardest during the selection process (11 plus exam).

I'm not familiar with the grammar/comprehensive setup, Mike.
Down Here it's either the no-fee State school system (primary, secondary) or private (primary, secondary) if the parents can afford the fees.

Fee paying schools here are called Public Schools, Bruce. Famous ones like Eton, Harrow and Rugby spring to mind.

State education now is mostly comprehensive i believe buddy. But some areas of the UK still have Grammar Schools.

So it is basically the same as your system, pay or do not pay.

Yep....I've heard of the Public Schools - although why they're called "public" when they are really private and have fees is somewhat confusing.
What is the difference between "grammar" and "comprehensive" schools, Mike? Do they only teach grammar at one and lots of stuff at the other?

Yeah it is definitely a dumb description Bruce.

Hahahahahahahaha, grammar schools were\are for the people who passed the 11 plus exam in the last year of junior\primary school. The losers like me who didn't pass it went to secondary schools. Which were less academically focused than grammar schools. Grammars also had the GCE exams in all subjects, at the end of their time in school (General Certificate of Education). In secondary schools, we had the CSE exams (Certificate of Secondary Education). Which was of a lower standard than GCE exams. Some pupils like myself, could be put forward to take the GCE exams in certain subjects in secondary school. If they were deemed a bit above average and likely to pass. I did GCE exams in English and History and passed. My CSE passes were not so brilliant, as i was only interested in those two subjects.

Comprehensive education, was an amalgamation of grammar and secondary schools, i believe Bruce. But that era was after my school days, so not sure why it happened. Probably political ideology of one sort or another. I do know the Tories are very pro the Grammar school system. There were also schools called Technical Schools in my day. Not sure what they did exactly, there were none in my area. But they were basically schools to turn out cannon fodder for factory jobs etc.

I may not be super intelligent, but i am aware enough to know that TSW what ever number is just more waste of money crud from DTG.

Back on topic…

Matt P popped up on the DTG forum last night and adamant he is not putting a “broken” save game in TSW3.

Well it hasn’t worried them for the last five years during which they had plenty of time to sort a solution.

There is no point in buying TSW3 with longer runs like Cajon until the save game is put back, not going to be many people who can do a 3 hour run in one shot.
