Looks like they were forced into releasing before ready. The signalling and speed limits really are a bit of a mess and need to be reworked by someone who understands the relationship of AWS ramps, TPWS grids and signage.
It's a shame as the 158 is very good and the HST, with cab doors you can leave open in motion and the AP VT185 sounds is excellent.
I'm in complete agreement with Vern. A few of the comments from the SHG rep allude to things just not being included- such as a robust time-table, and so on, because of the deadline. The rush then gets compounded when the route goes to beta-testers who find a lot of the faults, relay the info to someone (I'm assuming DTG, since I'm pretty certain no SHG dev wanted to see the route launched to such negativity) and then are told it can be patched later. I'm pretty certain the SHG rep mentioned a list of fixes they already were working on.
Such utter corporate swill on DTG's part. I'd hate to be a third party developer for them, and I certainly wouldn't want to fall on my sword for DTG's upper management twaddle.

If that were only true, I'd be out of a job.
My day job is IT Operations at a somewhat major company, and we see changes being deployed and rolled back daily. It's not an issue of quality but the ever increasing complexity for operating systems and hardware. It's a bunch of moving targets.
What works in the lab or a testing environment is sometimes a roll of the dice when it hits the real world, unless you can control the end user environment.
Today, getting 95% right in the first go seems to be more than acceptable to some.
That's why console gaming is still a thing. Far less customization and risk of legacy hardware or software constraints...
All that said, it seems this might have been rushed to coincide with the ownership change. Just a guess, though.

DTG have just announced their next UK route:
Is it part of the ECML, as much requested?
Is it part of the WCML as much requested?
Is it a nice run along the Dawlish sea wall from Exeter then down the Riviera Line to Paignton?
Is it the Metropolitan Line from Aldgate to Amersham, Uxbridge and Watford?

It's, wait for drum roll and fanfare... Manchester Piccadilly to Glossop and Hadfield. Yes folks a whole 14 miles of yet another UK electric commuter route, reusing the 323 from Birmingham Cross City presumably with a new paint job.
Another large terminus station with one train type and one service group.
What a joke. If that's the best they can produce then maybe it's time to pack TSW away or just make the tools publicly available so the wider users can have a go. Should they try and sell this for £30 they will be a complete laughing stock.
I don't understand DTG's thinking...*sigh*. As to releasing the tools, doubtful that'll ever happen despite the promises "it's coming..." from Day One of original TSW. Given the difficulty some of the 3rd party developers have with the tools I can't imagine they'd be easy or intuitive for the rest of us anyway and probably just as well.
I can see TSW4 just broaching the horizon, replete with 'fix(es)'...also a new 17 mile route with a single plastic loco and if you want to access the rest of line that runs an additional 35 miles to Happy Town Centre, there is a new subscription you can pay, only 11.99 euros/month. If you subscribe for six months the cost is reduced by a 1.33 euros, plus you get a free plushie collectable of a genius developer from Focus/DTG."

They have now said the Glossop route is going to be £19.99, but that's still overpriced.
Funny you should say about TSW4. In their "roadmap" published today, they mention a pause to catch up on bugfixes etc. That has a certain familiar ring to it...
As long as people keep buying what they put on the shelf, that's what they're going to create.
I suspect a 14-20 mile route may be close to the attention span of the average 13-30 year old playing a video game.
These days, I don't play much long that that because I'll fall asleep....

My 60 year old attention span is pegged at around ten miles I guess...I just finished my afternoon nap lmao...guess I'll get back to my save game ^.^
DTG have tended that garden of sales culture for a long time, what with those who try keeping up with the Joneses, buying every piece of DLC available in RW1-3/TS20XX/TSC, and also relying on the community to really push the sales too; if you didn't buy that one specific DLC you were left out in the cold for awhile. All lonely like. lol. While people modded, wrote scenarios for etc.-- if it was a truly good route you'd be out in the cold for a longtime (unless you succumbed to self-imposed peer pressure and bought it in a 'sale'). Like I've said before, I'm weak at times towards that consumeristic onslaught.
But I agree, if none of us bought the darn thing, they'd have to really take an inward look-- problem is how do you get the majority of players to agree not to buy? No offense but it's a fairly well known supposition that forum populations are a fraction of the player base and those of us who do post, a smaller set of that population. It's that large blob of gamers you'd have to convince too in order for such a move to have an effect.

Yes it was quite interesting to see the change in tone on the DTG forum after it was confirmed the price would be £20 not £30. The pitchforks and kindling for the stake was hurriedly packed away and a more conciliatory tone adopted.
