    TSW2 *PS5* Fully Fueled question

I do sincerely apologize asking about the infamous Fully Fueled as my first ever post on any train lovers/sim forum. The internet has been well and truly ravaged forwards and backwards as I have tried finding someone (anyone!) with my specific Fully Fueled issue. Believe me, I've looked for nearly a week! So, here we go...

As TSW2 is my very first train sim I had to do copious amounts of study learning about setting up MUs, learning brakes, DP, etc. So I believe I have all four locos in Fully Fueled properly set up. Hopefully we won't have to re-tread any of that. My issue is thus....

After connecting the rear two locos to the back of the consist (I hope I'm using that term correctly), I then proceed to travel on-foot approx 500 miles to the front two locos (I'm on PS5 so no warping allowed). Now here's where things get weird. Both the lead and trailing loco's engines are silent. It's like the engines' engines are shut down and won't re-start using the cold start sequence. Every few minutes the lead loco will spring to life for a brief few seconds before shutting back down. (And it's not like the sound is glitching off and on, I can audibly hear the engine spin down).

During my last attempt (I think I've done four attempts) I went ahead and drove 5-6 miles with the locos silent and out of nowhere the engine sprung to life and I could hear the engine spin up as I throttled into 4th of 5th gear. Excitedly I hit the external camera button in order to fly back to locos 3 and 4 to see how they were fairing and.....the game crashed. So that's my story. I apologize for all the parenthesis.

    Hi Turnbone!

First, we're glad you found us! Trainsim.com has forums for a variety of sims, with the most popular here being Openrails and Run8, and other sims having their own followings as well.

I don't have a ton of advice for you on TSW2, but hopefully others will. One thing I think could be helpful to your cause is to be more descriptive about the scenario - Most people playing TSW have probably by now moved on to TSW4, and it wouldn't surprise me if scenario's were a little different - So I'd ask that you include what route you're using, the name of the railroad, etc.. With this information, maybe someone who owns that route will fire it up and see if they can replicate what you're seeing.

A few other thoughts too - If it's a US freight engine, that thing's going to have a big diesel engine, but it's also going to have a pretty significant air compressor. Now the engine, once it's on, should stay on - it might change RPM, but it will never ever stop. The compressor on the other hand, you'll hear that kick off and on all the time, so I wonder if that's what you're hearing. This might be especially true if you're using TV speakers - the low frequency of the engine might not even be audible on smaller speakers, but that Compressor certainly will.

I'll close by saying it's exciting to all of us that a new person has found the hobby of Sim Trains, it's great that TSW exists on consoles, Prior to that it was a PC only thing. Having TSW on console's had opened the doors for many people without PC's who later then bought PC's and then branched into other sims. Welcome to the hobby, and we hope to see you around here for life, regardless of what Sim you use!

Welcome, and be patient -- we do have some TSW enthusiasts who do drop in, but they may not be every-dayers.
If you like what you see here at Trainsim.com, be it the discussions and knowledge in the forums, items saved in our library or the ongoing development of our TSRE Fork, I hope you'll consider a paid membership to help support keeping the site operating.... Thanks!

Might be worth registering an account at the official Dovetail Forum, which has a specific section for troubleshooting or you can search to see if the issue has arisen before.

As noted TSW2 is quite old now and most of us have moved on to TSW4.

Found a couple of references to issues people were having but for some reason can't link to the threads from here.

Just bear in mind that quite a few routes in TSW have scenarios or timetable runs that are broken and never got fixed. A particular pain if it's one of those in Journey mode.

Thank you for the warm welcome, you two. Going by memory I'm sure two of the four locos are GP-40s, but don't quote me. I'll snag the specs next time I make an attempt.

Quick thought. Have you enabled banking comms in the lead engine? You should do that before anything else. Also check the engine run and generator field etc switches are on.

Thank you everyone. I did some testing on my own as no one on earth seems to have had my specific problem. It appears that if I forget to turn on Comms in the lead engine on the rear of the train (the button on the Engineer's panel, not just the fuse) then for whatever crazed reason the two front engines won't be started and running. I hope this helps anybody playing on console.

I did just buy a physical copy of TSW3 since they are discounted now though I do intend to move on to TSW4 eventually. I'm still playing catch-up.

Don’t worry. There seems a better than even chance we’ll be getting TSW5 later this year!
